Understanding the benefits of rooftop accessories that keep roofs leak-free and protected.

Editor’s note: Share this information with your customers who want to learn more about rooftop penetrations and protection.

Rooftop accessories serve a crucial function to every roofing system — it’s more than just shingles and gutters. These accessories, like plumbing pipes and appliance vents, are invaluable for keeping your house properly ventilated and releasing excess moisture, heat and odors. For this reason, it’s crucial that the roof penetrations are sealed correctly to prevent moisture intrusion and mold growth while preserving the integrity of the roof and house. And properly installed rooftop accessories will prevent leaks and add to the curb appeal of your home. GAF’s lineup of rooftop solutions is built for performance, durability and visual appeal.

Master Flow™ Pivot™ Pipe Boot Flashing

One of the most vulnerable parts of your roof is the penetrations where plumbing vent pipes protrude through your roof. If they aren't sealed correctly with the proper flashing and rooftop accessories, you may be vulnerable to water intrusion.

GAF Master Flow™ Pivot™ Pipe Boot Flashing protects pipe penetrations by fully encapsulating them, providing a streamlined, finished appearance. This ensures a proper seal, reducing the risk of leaks. In addition, their durable, galvanized steel exterior has no exposed seals or gaskets and doesn't require caulking, which can degrade over time.

The pipe boot fits schedule 40 PVC, ABS and steel pipes with diameters of 1.5 inches (38.1 mm), 2 inches (50.8 mm), 3 inches (76.2 mm) and 4 inches (101.6 mm).

Pivot™ is available in four colors: black, weathered wood, brown and gray to ensure a seamless match with your shingles... It's also approved by the state of Florida and meets certain FORTIFIED Roof™ requirements

Pivot pipe boot flashing benefits

  • No exposed seals, gaskets or caulking that can degrade over time or be damaged by rodents, causing leaks.
  • Completely encapsulates plumbing vent pipes, giving them a clean look that matches your roof's aesthetic.
  • Passes the 110 mph wind-driven rain test per TAS-100(A) and UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistance test.
  • Extra-large 3" (76.2 mm) flashing on all sides helps reduce the risk of water infiltration and makes for easy installation.
  • Available in four colors to help blend in with today's most popular shingle colors.
  • Up to a 50-year warranty against leaks caused by manufacturing defects or ordinary wear and tear (or as long as the warranty on the adjacent roof cladding).
  • Enhanced warranty protection is available when installed by a GAF-certified* contractor in connection with a qualifying roof system.

Master Flow™ Versa Cap Adjustable Pipe Cap

Besides vent pipes, other vulnerable penetrations include rooftop flues, hot stacks and B-vents for exhaust from gas appliances. These must also be protected by rooftop accessories to prevent water intrusion.

GAF Master Flow™ Versa Cap Adjustable Pipe Cap provides a neat, finished appearance for these vents. It's made out of aluminum, so it resists rust, which can detract from the look of your roof. It fits pipes from 2 7/8 inches (73 mm) to 10 7/8 inches (276 mm) in diameter and features a positive draft design that helps prevent clogs.

Versa cap adjustable pipe cap benefits

  • Easy to install and features an adjustable clamp to ensure a secure fit.
  • Rust and corrosion resistant.
  • Positive draft design to help avoid clogging.
  • Large variety of pipe sizes, from 2 7/8 inches (73 mm) to 10 7/8 inches (276 mm).

Master Flow™ Bath & Dryer Rooftop Appliance Vent

Several household appliances vent heat and moisture through the roof, including bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans, range hoods and clothes dryers. These penetrations must also be protected by rooftop accessories to prevent moisture intrusion and allow inside heat, moisture and odors to escape.

GAF Master Flow™ Bath & Dryer Rooftop Appliance Vent protects and is a sleek, modern design to improve your home's curb appeal. It's made out of galvanized steel and features a stainless-steel removable screen and duct collar, making maintenance easier and a reducer to ensure a tight fit on round ducts of 4 inches (102.6 mm) and 3 inches (76.2 mm). It also comes in four colors to match popular shingles.

Bath & dryer rooftop appliance vent benefits

  • Provides a modern, elevated finished appearance on your roof.
  • Passes 110-mph wind-driven rain testing per TAS 100(A).
  • Meets ventilation codes that require a minimum of 12.5 square inches (26,458 mm²) of net-free ventilation area for rooftop appliance vents.
  • Available in four colors to complement today's popular shingle colors: black, brown, weathered wood and gray.
  • Durable galvanized steel exterior protects against the elements.
  • Up to a 50-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects (matching the warranty length of the surrounding roof cladding).
  • Enhanced warranty protection is available when installed by a GAF-certified* contractor in connection with a qualifying roof system.

Protecting your roof with the right accessories

Rooftop accessories, such as GAF Master Flow™ Pivot™ Pipe Boot Flashing, Versa Cap Adjustable Pipe Cap and Bath & Dryer Rooftop Appliance Vent, are specifically designed to keep water or moisture out of your roof, attic and home while providing a complementary aesthetic to improve the curb appeal of your home. Each product is designed to focus on a particular type of penetration, ensuring the most reliable and best protection against water intrusion.
