Aaron aka CopperCricket from Dubuque Iowa writes, "This little guy woke to a racket going on outside! From a tight spot between the roof deck and brick wall he squeaked and squeaked for us to - shut up! It’s the middle of the day for crying out loud! Bats are trying to sleep around here!
I’d have let him be, but factually he was about to get closed in. Trapped and left to starve. They’d find his bones in a hundred years on the next steeple renovation, like we’ve been finding them. Bones and beaks and feathers. That’s not a fun way to die.
So I coaxed him with the tip of a screwdriver - come on Mr. Bat , it’s time to evacuate. He hissed and showed his teeth, bit the tool but it was dirty with crumbled mortar. He licked his lips to get the sand off his tongue, and then climbed out.
We got one more smile out of him for the photo here, then he fell right back to sleep, no kidding."

"Moss and lichens on a cedar roof is not a good thing people! The moss retains moisture which promotes wood decay and premature deterioration. I took this picture today while inspecting a cedar roof in Easton Pennsylvania along the Delaware River. The moss and lichens were so thick that they were actually growing lichen flowers I had never seen this personally so I had to share.”
