I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned sixty-something.)
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'
He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?
'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'
Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?
I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.
He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have lots of sex?'
'No,' I said...
He looked at me and said,.. 'Then, why do you even give a shit?
Turned 61 on New Year's Eve.........feeling age more and more for some reason, must be age related ;) ;)

I'm determined to keep moderating my behavior for several reasons not the least of which is I want to be a proper support for my children and my grandchildren. Life is shaky enough without having your old ones going off like Roman candles. But then as far as I can tell one of the worst things in the world would be to lay there on your deathbed and say, well, yeah, I did all those things, but only in my mind, or worse yeah I lived life fully but I didn't inhale. Gerry has something there... you're working hard, minding your own business, a bolt of lightning goes in through your head and out through the soles of your feet, and you're not necessarily bound to sit there as the smoke drifts away and say, "Oh, yeah, let's do that again."
That was a nice little contribution, Mike. Thanks for putting a smile on my old sour mug. Been a little rough lately here. My mother was "halfway to 180" as she put it and going strong until October when she "had a very bad flu attack." Flu doesn't make you gain eight lbs. of fluid in your feet, congestive heart failure does, whether or not you admit to it. She's rebuilding from scratch right now with a lot of help and winter has not yielded any downtime to recharge this year, I can tell you that. Brought us all closer together though. Not like Egypt & ETC. ETC. ETC. all around the great big world. Plenty to stress over if you let it take you down, so I don't let it. We weren't put here for that.
mike you look so young for 60 something. how do you do it?lol i get the journeyman roofer mag. and seemsmost guys are dying in their 60's and 70's. hardly anyone 80 or above. must be that healthy roofer lifestyle.
