I sold this chimney flashing job today and need a whole bundle of these shingles. I'm not sure what brand or what the color name is. Don't let the pic fool ya, they are 13 inches wide and 39 inches long 3-tabs and have a 5 3/4 inch exposure. Anyone know?
Natty, I concluded the flashing was leaking by process of elimination. There simply was nothing else wrong. Great brick mortar and a nice new cap. Then there was the nasty stain on the ceiling under the right side of the chimney. If I had taken the pic from below the chimney, you could see how the base flashing on the right side is slanted.
After I removed all the flashing, I discovered lumps of concrete on the right side. That is what prevented the base flashing from being level. I chipped it down below the roof deck with the axe end of my plumb hatchett and went back with step flashing.
Il never understand that mentality. They could have pulled the crap wall flashing out and swapped in steps for less $$/time than it cost them in spraying caulking at all possible surfaces. Other than that it looks like they did a nice straight job, why wreck it.
Too late natty, Job's already done. Didn't bother with pic's on this one but it turned out great. It's rained cats and dogs twice since I finished it and not a drop. In fact, I did nearly 200 repairs in the last year and not a drop on any of them.
It was leaking on the right side ( first pic ). They used 4 x 4 roof to wall flashing instead of step flashing, had it installed slanted down into the roof to the right instead of down flush and then made holes all in it by gun nailing the shingles right down into the flashing.
Chuck Said: Yes, it is leaking. I will do my best not to put the flashing on upside down. ;)
Great-be sure to take a picture of that leak. From these pictures, I don't see how you could conclude the roof flashing is leaking. Something less invasive would be in order.
You got it PatChap. I went down to ABC Supply today with a shingle I took off the roof. It was IKO Marathon Charcoal Grey. They didn't have any in stock, no one else in this town sells IKO and it's a BIG town with a dozen roofing suppliers plus the big boxes. They ordered me a whole bundle to be shipped in with the next load.
Looks like iko charcoal grey to me. Marathon are metric 3tab. Their laminates are a crapshoot but the 3tab aren't too bad.

Why are you reflashing the chimney? Is it leaking? It is pretty high on the roof to be leaking around the roof flashing.
I think in some areas they do. You could use the metrics from the back on the front. Then blend the regular with the metrics in the back.
Or you could use the caps for tabs and use the regular shingles for the caps.
You can make it work somehow.
Well, good point. Does GAF make a metric 3-tab?
Do not use the whiter tabs.
GAF Nickel gray would be close except for the whiter tabs in it. Around here I can't get metric 3-tabs w/o special ordering.
GAF Nickel Grey?
I would use shingles off the back of the roof so the front look uniform. Then blend in regular shingles or an different brand in the back if I had to.
They are 3 years old. The guy let an out of town storm chaser do the roof for what insurance would pay. Evidently insurance didn't pay for new chimney flashing or else the storm chaser pocketed it.
Stone grey???
