USING YOUR COMMENTS FOR MY BLOG

So I am starting a blog because people smarter than me say I have to. Certain people think other people might be interested in what I have to say. Actually it is really important if the RCS is going to grow in today's new world. So how do you all feel about me posting what you have to say or some photos you have included? For example Old School posted photos of rafters he is making in his shop. Could I post a photo of it and reference him and his topic without asking his permission first? Do you all think I should contact each RCS'er each time individually? Since it's on here is it OK for me to share it?

Please let me know how you feel about it.

Most people think incoherence is a mark of greatness. Babbling is tolerated, although with suspicion. Dribbling, when we get to that point, is not good. That's why we have friends to look after us. Being quoted is fine as long as nobody can penetrate the moniker. :woohoo:

Y'a know I just watched The Parent Trap with my daughther (the new one with Loony Lohan) and there's a line I just can't get out of my head:

Anyway, from a legal POV, I think anything that's posted on a public forum, unless specifically copyright protected, would be pretty hard hard to make a claim over, since all one has to do is "save as" on a photo or text, it's hard to consider it protected intellectual property on the part of the poster.

In fact, I'd say you may have more claim to it than the poster, since it was unsolicited and uploaded to your your website.

Hotlinked photos from a site that does not allow copying could be a different matter.

With all that said, I think it's just common courtesy to ask, particularly if you're taking someone's photograph. But that's just me. I'm not posting anything here that's secret, so ..... Have at it.

Thing is, I sometimes update my site when there are relevant posts on forums that I participate in. Do you have 'No Follow' link rules here? You should remove them.

I link back and forth, on my site to other forums, DIY, Roofing com, etc. It's a win-win. Poke into my site again Vickie to see what I'm talking about.

You know the kind of work I do Vickie. A lot of it is Media sensitive. Working commercials with Dennis Hazberg the Good Hands Guy for Allstate and other small local news events. It is imperative you get a release from anyone you are quoting or lifting up as a spoke person. When this site becomes the premier site for roofing news and comment the last thing you want is to have someone say it was "because of the comments etc they contributed to the blog" that made it famous and now want compensation. Well, I think we will capture a whole new audience there for the RCS. See if I write a blog, hopeful something interesting, we may get a few people reading it BUT... Google searches the blogs for relevant topics and when someone does a search my blog will come up with a link back here. The blog I am using is created to be picked up by Google whereas this Forum is not. Then we take a few sentences from the blog and post it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and link back to the forum and/or the blog so now the Social people can get interested and perhaps check in. BUT... Google ranks us by how many people link to us so if I link back to myself and others link to me I have lots of new links. Also we are ranked on fresh and relevant content which we also do. SO... we can become the most important game in town. AND... advertisers will want to be here.

As far as why people read blogs, I think they are trying to learn something. This place is really a blog as far as I am concerned and look how much we love reading it all.

If I post it here it might. I will email you soon. I just want you to know how much I have appreciated your help over these last few years. Kiss your lovely wife for me.
