I don't know if it's just me or it's just Minnesota but I really like working claims with State Farm. Can't recall the last roof that got denied with them. Get them to pay $375 for walkers...

If you can document and prove the vents were damaged they will pay to replace them.

allstate? I hate that company and WILL NOT work claims for their "insureds". Don't like turning down good referral insurance leads but have to.

Estimators on Call Said: The key is documentation. If you take pictures and use their own processes, it makes it tough to deny. WE do this all day long. There are ways to get them to pay for decking that needs replaced, drip edge, in some places they ice and water, and things like vents and jacks.

It is all in how you write it and present it.

For instance, they will not pay for rotted decking. However, if you have a delaminated surface that is un-nailable, they will pay for it, they have to.

We get this kind of stuff all day long, and we get it bought for our clients. It is all about speaking the language. http://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/rcs/users/EstimatorsonCall/

Darn, URL not working. Post the long way to get to that link please. ty

roof_dawg Said: GRR!!! Thats about how insurance makes me feel, except for when I walk onto a roof w/ hardly any hail damage and get to tear it off. Especially when its all over town, then its all woo-hoos. Love-hate relationships are rough.

Im particularly angry this morning because Ive got 4-5 leads in two days that start with I need another estimate for my insurance Co. And the latest thing Im hearing from SF is that they wont pay for flashing or pipe boots unless they are storm damaged. Their base price pays enough to work around these items. Also they wont pay for drip edge unless the felt is ran underneath of it!! Maybe Ive been lucky, but Ive not encountered this before.

Q? Isnt it ultimately the homeowners decision whom they choose to contract with? Cant the homeowner simply say, Im using XYZ company end of story. Or, Ill get 10 bids if you want but I have chosen to work with XYZ company and all getting bids will do is waste everyones time. then XYZ company supplements the insurance claim so what does it ultimately matter to the insurance company how many bids the h/o gets. (yes, i know some of you do not supplement so lets not go there)

thanks

CIAK Said: If the gutter is nailed through the drip the will pay for the drip removal and replacement. If the drip is cut around the spike they will not pay for drip.

Both of these are correct in my situation haha. Actually the drip is cut around old gutter straps. The gutter guys snipped em and screwed gutter through the drip. I'm going to have see if SF will pay.

Maybe I'll reuse the felt to save some dollars!! Screw the homeowner, right?

If they wont pay for drip edge, then increase the replacement cost $192.00 back on and 46 off is a joke, exitimate says thats the going rate well not for a legitimate contractor with real insurance and licensing

Just got off the phone with my public adjuster im paying by the hour to fight them, they have agreed to pay and our supplementals. Weve been fighting them for 3 months on these claims, two down many more to go.

Tch Tch Allstate pays for drip, pays for damaged vents ridge vent. If the soil boots are glued down to the roof with mastic and it requires you to lift them out of the adhesive they pay. If the gutter is nailed through the drip the will pay for the drip removal and replacement. If the drip is cut around the spike they will not pay for drip. It all makes logical sense. They won't pay for your profits if it is higher than other roofers around that will do it forexactimate pricing.

And i never thought i would say, id rather deal with allstate! :S

There is no extra money in there for vents and drip edge its a line item, were having the same problen here. I reported them to the state insurance commisions office and they paid drip edge and not vents and op as we are repairing all damages and subbing out the siding, gutters, patio covers,ac recombs, fencing repairs etc no O&P,no vents unless they have hail hits,no drip edge.We have roofs where the vents were rusted out and they refused to pay for them.Exactimate pricing is so low with State farm you make about $240.00 a square on a 30 year excluding these items.Shingles will be $101.00 a square next week.Keep calling, keep fighting, get your customers on the phone with state farm on a three way call.So they can explain to them why thier omitting the vents, drip edge and O&P.I see this ending up in court if they dont relent,im supposed to gamble on wether the vents will leak. They dont give you a dumpster fee, they tell you thats in the tear off price, which is about 46 a square here.Thats a joke and so is exitimate and they wont budge off thier manipulated exitimate pricing, i told my estimators yesterday if the homeowner has State Farm just walk away.Like a good nieghbor State is ripping off thier insureds, karmas a bitch and will bite them in the ass, sooner or later!

I don't use xactimate for my proposals, however I've played around w/ it a little bit. I didn't see the adjustment in this particular case, but I called SF and they told me that they wouldn't reimburse the customer for these items. They normally have everything itemized in my experience. So they want me to reuse two lead boots which are in pretty bad shape, and the same w/ the drip edge.

CIAK: Maybe there is money allowed in there to work around them, but my main complaint is that they aren't paying for replacement.

July 9, 2011 at 12:41 p.m.

CIAK

If I understand you correctly. You are mistaken. The components, drip edge, boot flashing's etc are included in the estimate. The components are in the xatmate programing. You can separated them if you know how to run xactimate estimating program. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day
