started with new company mon. is good so far. tearing off an epdm roof w/ a bur underneath. f/a tpo w/ 2 layers of iso back on.
medinah eh, nice golf course there. couple tips for welding . for unsupported flashing membrane i put the gun at 7-8. on reinforced material (field sheet material) i go 8-9. start at the lower end 1st as you better/faster you can increase the temp.
Shingles are easy, just nail on the, *gasp* nail line. I like residential, largely because alot of the older roofers around her f'd up everything so it's rather easy to look good. I also like the quick pace.
I'm not near Chicago, so I don't have the commercial market your used to but I'm doing an 8sq TPO in a week or two. I still need to order a welder (not sure which yet) and practice on some scraps I bought for cheap.
I've got a good friend from Medinah, but other than goin up there w/ him once in a while, I stay away from Chicago hah.
hey roof dawg, thanks. yes i do low slope, actually i hardly know chit about shingles, but i'm trying to learn more as i'd like to be a complete roofer. one of my goals is to own my own roofing company, but i want to be an expert in all aspects of roofing; so i don't get in over my head. most companies i've worked for use leister. they make hand welders as well as "robots" or "dogs" as they say in other areas. i've also used cadillac brand but found the hand welder was bulkier. still did the job though. you're in IL? i grew up in elgin. just moved to milwaukee for this job, and so my wife could be closer to her family. damn packer fans lol!
Glad to hear things are better. Are you primarily low slope? The warm weather has been driving the calls in here.. in IL. I mostly do tearoff's and install asphalt shingles, though.
I'm just about to do my first TPO soon hopefully, what kind of a welder do you guys use or recommend?
thanks trg. you picking up there in ny as well?
