Seems anytime I get a job with a local comp.,I starve over christmas,no o/t, and no benefits.Storm chasing has its problems also.Bottom line,I,m just trying to feed my family,I'm torn.
I think it's about diversifying how you market yourself. You have to use all various avenues to get your name out there; word of mouth, paper ads, leaflets, signs, online listing, etc. Heck, in San Jose roofing contractors will put up their info on bulletin boards in local hardware stores as well. Every little bit counts, and once the word gets around you won't have to do as much to get work; as you'll have a reputable name in the community.
When work is slow go where the work is. Understand and respect where you are working and their way of doing things. They may do things differently in some respects Respect that and not try to change it -- your way is not necessarily the better way. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Promote the trade in a craftsman manner. Feed your family.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzLB4xAY10Y&feature=related B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day
