Roof is 5 years old just started leaking into the living room. Wadayatink?
This what the HO said in email.
The middle of the house is the living room. No attic. THere are attics right and left of the living room, and there is no leaking in the attics. The leaking is black stuff like tar, I will send you a picture of that inside next. See the chimney here, the leaking is aboout five feet right of the chimney on each side of the A'frame. I can send you more pictures if you would like, but it appears to me that even though the shingles are not laid right, that the roof is not actually leaking, but instead there are places around the chimney that need to be totally flashed and replaced, etc, etc. because stuff is running under the shingles and going into living room ceiling. See next picture on your email
Tinner makes a good point in regards to the ice/watershield may of melted seeing it so close to the chimney., that was the first thing that came to mind, someone flashed the chimney with i/w shield and now it's exposed to heat...
Yes ur rite twill, so they followed an imaginary nail line then
Looks to me, like I have seen a few times before, these nonroofers thought the nail line was the layem straight line. lol
Old School Said: Looking at the overall picture and the closeup again, it appears that there is a flatter shed roof that goes right up to the peak by the chimney. I think that the fifth row of shingles is slightly stretched in the closeup, but not that much. I wonder if there is inadequate ventilation from below and the cathedral ceiling is leaking form the ridgevent? Just a thought
sure is a possiblity, but it will cost em to find out if I have anything to do with it.
That's really sad.
I went to look at a metal job today. I realized I was within blocks of a few I did in the 80's. Took the archy and HO to look at them. No patches, no pinched or buckled panels. All the newer roofs around have patches or even blown off panels. The Ho and Archy both said longevity counts. These newcomers haven't a clue.
We were in Louisville on saturday for 5 k run for the wife while i sipped coronas, was going to cross the bridge just so i could enter P-twillys state but never made it.Did get to joescrab shack on the river though! :woohoo:
House is in the North Carolina moutains. 3hr drive. From what I see, looks like a total replacement will be needed. 6" exposure on a 12" shingle, wadajoke.
Was in mason ohio over the weekend at Great wolf lodge and kings island, whole place is roofed in these shingles.Roof looked new hundreds of squares, shingles blown off all over! Looked like the Texas two nailers had been thru town!
HO is gonna have a baby if further inspection shows it's going to have to be replaced.
What else is new, eh?
gone , gone, and gone
Saw that too. Where is the company that did it?
def and 2 " offset, maybe 2.5 This is cert. independence. I dont see the dutch lap.
The second through 5 th. rows of shingles also appear to have more exposure. Over an 1" of extra by the 5th. course. You suppose there is a lack of headlap?
tinner666 Said: I see a few dutch laps in that photo but they wont leak. Sounds like some Grace is melting to me. Did you get the other pix?
Yea just a pic of black stains on the ceiling tile.
