Someone tried to blame rats for this damage. After I took it apart, I found that it never was done right. The original roofer/framer just threw down a piece of unsupported osb to get some slope on the roof, then step flashed the masonite-type siding that had nothing behind it. The house was reroofed 8 yrs later by a storm chaser who just repeated the same thing. Now, 10 yrs later, I come in and tear it out and start from scratch. I supported the deck to get some slope and put in a backer board with underlayment and fiber cement siding. Now it is built to last.

Mine looks just like this, only I have justification to tear off that entire half of the roof. There is exposed ice & water shield where flashing should be!

I've done a lot of those dead valley repairs natty but I can't say I like them. They are a real p.i.t.a. Don't stare at that Masonite siding too long either or it will start to rot. Looks good! ;)
