If you were sitting around with no work and you got the job for $50 sq. labor only, then congratulations on getting a new start to move forward. The guys might seem rough on you but they are just trying to teach you how to not be in this situation in the future.

To avoid this scenario in the future you might want to sit down and calculate all the costs and headaches involved in what you do, get a good idea of exactly what those are and charge accordingly. Remember that knowledge, skill, experience and time doing anything whatsoever toward a job are all worth money, not just labor. Best of wishes and Good Luck!

PS: I had another roofer tell me last week that he had bid $30 sq. on a new construction 4/12 and lost the job to a guy that bid $25. The job was 18 sq. so the owner of the property threw him under the bus for 90 dollars. Moral of the story? Target better buyers!

I got it for 50 a square and will be at this guys house for a month doing other work, replacing rotten wood around house etc.....Turns out he had 20 sqs left and not 6!!! also has fascia that needs tobe replaced as I go. Got adaily rate on the wood work 300 a day for myself and a guy I pay 10 an hour.

Thanks for putting me back on track. Being on the comeback trail has put my head in my ass when pricing jobs. I have to remember how hard and how long it took me to get all of this first hand knowledge and NOT to give it away. Gotta get paid for my knowledge but not rip any eyes out. Thanks again. God has really been blessing me I am back as a roofer again. Dad always said "Quit giving your labor away for free!" Lesson REAFFIRMED!!!

On a 4:12 I would expect 6- 8sqs/man day out of the current local labor force.

DL=$35/sq.....as a legitimate contractor providing labor only - at least $75/sq.

$40/sq MORE than laminate price...maybe!
