How do you allow for panel movement with exposed fasteners?

According to AEP Span:

There are advantages and disadvantages with using exposed fastener panels. One of the downfalls of an exposed fastener system is that it doesn’t allow for movement. Over time, the panel will expand and contract at the fastening point, so we recommend using a fastener with a neoprene washer if exposed fasteners are used
