Hello..
I lurked around here a few years ago and received allot of good advice and want to thank the board again. I ended up installing Malarkey legacy shingles I'm very happy with so far, and also saved some money on the work.
So now fast forward to today.. I'm divorcing my wife and walking away from that house. I just accepted a counter offer on a different house which is in rough shape. And I mean rough.. It has 5/12 pitch and steeper. The roof is in the worst shape, and I'm wondering what the longest lasting roofing product for my situation might be. I plan on living there for at least 15 years.. I imagine malarkey would be a good choice again but I haven't been following the industry at all. But Iv always had allot of respect for hand made metal roofs back in the day because I was a tinner and own a 10' sheet metal brake etc. And just the life long value of good metal roofs.
If you planned on living in a house which needed a roof for at least 15-20 years. But would be to old in age to help replace it after that 15-20 years.. What type of product would you pick?
Thanks!
I'll walk away from roofs if I don't want it in a heartbeat, but ventilation is something they can add later. Not a deal breaker for me in most circumstances, especially after I've given them my schpeel about the benefits. They've all been informed.
The CT's I ran last year were a bit brittle, but that could be because they are stored outside around here.
I've been running Malarkey's for about 9 months. I hate that I can't speak for their longevity, but I really like the shingle.
Can't go wrong with O/C, if they are nailed properly. I'd like to think all the roof's I'm putting on(asphalt) will last 20 years even if the customer doesn't want to ventilate as I suggest.
twill59 Said: 15-20 yrs.? A properly installed laminate shingle with a well ventilated and insulated attic. Should go 25 yrs. Improperly installed or designed 15, max.Only 2 I recommend: CT LandMark or O/C Duration. IDK Malarkeys at all
Thanks Twill. Ill take a look at the CT LandMark and O/C Duration's, but it would be hard for me to sway away from the Malarkey's IF I used shingles. We did my dads with Legacy's also. Mine looks new after 9 years.
I guess I want something even longer lasting but didnt want the pizza hut look.
