I left a homeowner almost in tears tonight. I check each and every attic area to make sure that the ventilation system will work. Turned out she had the insulation attached to the bottom side of the roof deck. I told her that we would have to change that or she wouldn't have a roofing warranty from the manufacturer of any shingle. She stated that I just lost the job. I told her that I was fine with that as long as she understood that no roofer in the world could give her a shingle that would stand up to the warranty Gods. She calmed down long enough to let me show her the warranty paperwork that clearly shows ventilation is needed and here in Ohio it's part of our code. She asked me why the other Roofers didn't tell her that and one of them is a GAF master Elite. I told her that liars and crooks don't understand integrity or morals. Maybe it was the poor training our state mandates to be a roofer. NONE! I have no problem walking away from a job that won't be completed correctly. My Integrity is the only thing on this Earth that no Man or Woman could ever take from me. It is mine to keep or loose. Mine is invaluable and keeps my moral compass straight.

I sleep very well at night, and have no ethical issues with the man whose face I shave in the morning.

That ain't nutt'n....I went after a GC on a Navy base job we did some years ago....The payment/performance bond for the multi=million dollar project was bogus!
The contracting officer said they don't nessecarilly check the bonds' validity!
That's our fine gooberment!
