We see a lot of ridge vent that is just installed over the plywood.
Shoddy work has always been around but the amount of insurance work created by door knockers in recent years has increased it greatly. Insurance pays the minimum they can get by with, therefore there is no money in doing things right. To make decent money with insurance it's all about production. Not quality.
Old School Said: What is that, a painted soffit vent, or a different color of paint designed to look like one?
I took the soffit vent off. It is amazing what some people who could care less will cover up when they know they can get away with it.
The tragedy is that I am seeing stuff like this all over the place. This particular house was built in '96 then reroofed by slop-on stormers in '03 with only 4 of these soffit vent covers and 3 turtle vents on top. It has less than 1 sq. foot of net ventilation for an attic with over 1500 sq. ft. on a 2-story.
I will be installing a power vent and adding about 20 proper soffit vents and air channels.
