Last guy is right about putting it in your bid. The bigger key is getting O&P past the adjuster who is handling the file. Most insurance carriers will not pay O&P unless there are at least 3 qualified trades. As an adjuster they pound that into our heads over and over during storm orientation. Usually to get O&P a GC has to be subbing out work on the particular claim/job to a Carpenter, Electrician, Dry-waller,Painter, and just about any other trade that may require coordination to get the job completed. Unfortunately roofing is not considered one of the qualified trades. Every carrier is very specific about O&P with their adjusters. Ask the adjuster what the criteria is. I have a roofer/contractor that I have consulted with in TX right now that is going back to the carrier and asking for O&P. This is based on him subbing out a dry-waller, painter and insulation guy (all 3 are considered qualified trades ). Carriers look at it from the stand point that a roofing contractor is already building profit into his price and that roofing jobs can be completed without having the homeowner or GC around to give them access to the damage. Some carriers will pay O&P with less trades, some won't. Ask! Ask! Ask!
