Gable Roof Gutters

I have a home with a metal roof. The base roof line is simple, one long ridge-line running the length of the house. There are two gables that help to create additional space upstairs. These only extend from the ridge-line toward the from of the house. The builder installed gutters on the sides of the gable roofs that are sloped toward the main roof ridge-line with no end cap at that end so that the water simply pours onto the main roof then into the gutters at the from and the back of the house. Since this is a metal roof is there any real reason for the gables to have gutters? I would think that these are somewhat pointless especially since the water ends up in the main gutters anyway. What these gutters do is create a dangerous clean out scenario. Thoughts?
