Do I have any Liability Here?

I changed out two pipe collars for a lady on a rental house last week along with some other repairs. They were both 2 inch pvc and just a few feet apart.

The renter was just moving into the house as I was doing the estimate and I did the work only two days later.

She had the house renovated before the renter moved in and working on the kitchen to bathroom wall just below these two pipes was part of the work.

After that work was complete one of the pipes leaked. So she hired some other company to go up there and fix it and it continued to leak anyways.

She then hired me to fix it and the leaking has ended.

However, She claims that an iron pipe came through the bathroom wall on the other side of the kitchen just under these two pipes.

I did the work by myself, had no radio going or anything, there was no one home. No distractions whatsoever.

I was very careful and cautious during the process of removing the old pipe collars, heard no unusual noises, felt nothing unusual or anything. Everything seemed to have went smoothly.

Evidently at some time in the past someone connected pvc to iron inside the wall and didn't do a very good job of it.

Do I have any liability here? She is asking for $200 off a $650 repair!

I gave her the $200 off. It's not like she's the only person to ever get off on a technicality. ;)

Whoever did the crappy connection of the pvc and the iron pipe is the culprit.

Any time that you enter into a contract, beware! probably make a settlement with her otherwise you' be going through the judical system phrase it in a way that doesn't make you liable but you will help her out if she is short money
