I talked to certainteed rep today, he said they should be announcing within the week they will be changing all warranties from the 30 year upwards to limited lifetime. This no doubt is to cover themselves against GAF up-grading their warranties earlier this year.

RandyB1986 Said: I can shi* in a box and warranty it for a lifetime..........but if the lifetime warranty is really 5 years then the typical pro rated bullshit kicks in, the crap in the box would be just as good of a warranty.

I will never install another Certainteed product, not after the way they handled their last jacked-up materials! You would be better off ordering from China.

Its kind of like parts store giving lifetime warranty on a $20 part that costs $600 in labor to replace....how much good is the part if the labor isnt paid? $20.

Hey wasn't this in Tommy Boy?? lmao....I love Certainteed and actually have a a great rep here in NC. I believe it depends on your region some companies presence is stronger in certain areas because GAF sucks in my area as far as reps go. Atlas has great rep coverage too but their shingles need help. Owens corning is also ok here.........

Now if a 30 year shingle is now a "lifetime" or 50 year shingle what will happen to sales of the shingles that were always 50 years? How many home owners will opt dish out 50% more for materials for there roof if the warranty is the same as the thin 50 years?

Wonder if they will still be a 5 year sure start or if they'll bump it up any?

My opinion? Like the others on here... WHAT A JOKE!!!

Certainteed's warranty out shines them all. They actually cover astetics unlike the others. This is good :)

So whats the next step in shingle wars? Where does a manufacturer that has lagging sales go now? They already have a lifetime warranty. Their shingles will now last forever. What do they do next to grab market share? How can this be improved upon?

I agree with Dr. Roof.

I've been tearing down the warrantee upgrades since the mid eighties. It's twenty-year technology. Thirty in perfect conditions. If you get a good batch of premium shingles. If the fasteners don't rust. If you install carefully. "40-year," "50-year," "Lifetime." A complete farce.

I have never sold a job without putting the so-called years in quotes.

I won't allow clients to hold out any hope for that baloney. They would only say, "Why didn't you make it clear to me." But there are legitimate reasons, other reasons, to abandon the light-weight laminates for the heavier ones. Apparently the medium-weight laminates are all about to be discontinued. Imho, that is a shame.

Good marketing ploy seeing that the world is going to end in 2012. ;)

All the manufacturers will be lifetime warranty soon. Any credibility that they had is gone.
