What's the difference between an asphalt rolled or modified bitumen roof? I have photos but can't get them to upload for some reason. I'm new to these roofs and am pretty ignorant. I know the basic characteristics of each ( I think ), but can't tell without touching the stuff. Any way to know by a picture?

Thanks for any help.

GSD Said: Probably the easiest way to tell just by looking is the seams, the asphalt rolled roofing will have plastic roof cement in the seams, the mod bit will have melted tar squeezing out of the seams.

Y'alls muss gotch'erself some high n mighty rolled rufers up thar'n the land o'the wolverine.

Us apalachians ain't ne'r seen no black mammy tween a roll uh 90#. Nosiree, just unroll, nail the laps & go.

The peal and stick product is probably GAF Liberty. pretty good stuff if you keep the sticky only on the non granuled areas. and have a slight pitch on the roof deck.

Well that's part of what was confusing - there is nothing at the seams. It seems almost like a peel-and-stick application, and the seams seem to be pressed very well.

GSD is right, but self adhered mod bit won't have the melted tar exposed.
