The Tile Roofing Industry Alliance (TRIA) is dedicated to the performance, beauty and value of clay and concrete roof tile systems. We provide technical expertise, training and certification to ensure code-approved, high-quality installations. Beyond education, TRIA serves as the industry’s advocate in government relations, engaging in Washington, D.C. on regulatory, immigration and workforce development issues. At the state level, TRIA leads efforts to increase wind resiliency standards in Florida and strengthen fire resiliency standards in California. By advancing higher performance standards for roof assemblies, we ensure that tile roofing continues to set the benchmark for durability, sustainability and safety. Our members drive this mission forward, shaping codes, practices and policies that secure the future of the tile roofing industry.

n 2024, the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance launched a multi-year Tile Roofing Energy Cost Savings (TRECS) Study in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy to validate the superior energy benefits of concrete and clay tile roofing versus common asphalt shingles. The study is collecting continuous data from 41 roof stations across 10 code-defined climate zones in the United States, measuring temperatures at the roof deck, in the attic, and within conditioned living spaces. Early findings are already demonstrating meaningful differences: surface temperatures under tile are as much as 50 °F cooler, and attic temperatures under tile can run up to 30 °F cooler than under shingles. These thermal advantages can lead to lower HVAC load, better insulation efficiency, and reduced energy use, which benefits homeowners, utilities, and the environment. In the coming years, our TRECS Study aims to validate these results through Oak Ridge National Labs certification and influence energy calculators and building practices to fully recognize tile’s performance benefits. Keep up with the latest TRECS updates here.
