It’s 2018, Why are We Still Relying on Tarps for Catastrophic Weather?

APR - ProdSvc - Stormseal - Why are people still relying on tarps
May 3, 2018 at 6:40 a.m.

2017 was the most expensive year on record for disasters, thanks to the combination of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and the devastating western wildfires.

Catastrophic weather events are becoming increasingly frequent in the U.S. and around the world, with consequent soaring economic and social costs.

The 2017 disasters caused $306 billion in total damage, with 16 separate events that accrued more than $1 billion in damage each. The majority of the damage ($265 billion) was caused by hurricanes.

It’s been over six months since these devastating hurricanes pummelled the US and Puerto Rico, and sadly, thousands of families are still living under a tarp.

As new storms develop, tarps often rip, blow off, leak, or collapse, resulting in further property damage, additional stress and harm to occupants and homeowners, and insurance claims escalate.

After seeing the devastating damage of a severe storm that hit Sydney, Australia, Matthew Lennox thought there must be a better alternative to tarps. This idea led him to co-develop Stormseal, a patent-protected plastic technology that weatherproofs damaged buildings. It has multiple advantages over tarps with a proven resistance to severe weather.

Stormseal heat shrinks to the damaged structure, enhancing its strength and ensuring a perfect fit, without damaging any underlying materials.

Stormseal enables a faster, safer emergency response and improves the psychological, social and financial resilience in the aftermath of a storm. We have seen Stormseal dramatically improve outcomes for storm victims first hand. Stormseal gives insurers, roofers and residents peace of mind for rapid recovery.
