Top of the line in products, safety and careers

WTI Edgar Rivera Day in the Life
April 5, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

The most successful companies are the ones that invest in their employees with the same fervor as their products and services. Celebrate WTI’s commitment to their crews and find your place in the roofing industry.

At Tremco Roofing and Weatherproofing Technologies Incorporated (WTI), safety is a huge priority. Edgar Quiñones Rivera, safety manager of the Gulf Coast region, knows this better than most, and says it’s one of his favorite parts of the job. We recently sat down with Edgar to hear more about his job at WTI and why everyone in the roofing industry stays for good.

Edgar works with a wide variety of employees across the company through safety training. When asked about what he loves about his job, he shares, “One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing individuals progress within the organization. Observing their journey from humble beginnings, as they gradually acquire knowledge and evolve into their true potential, is truly inspiring. Our company fosters a culture of growth, actively encouraging upward mobility through the chain of command.”

He has seen firsthand how willing the company is to promote within and invest in their employees. Edgar continues, “My professional journey began as a safety officer. Over time, I progressed to the role of a safety coordinator and later transitioned into a safety engineer. Currently, I hold the position of safety manager. What I truly appreciate is the direct interaction I have with individuals on the job sites. Rather than relying solely on remote communication, I value the personal connections forged while addressing questions and concerns face-to-face.”

As a native Spanish speaker, Edgar also helps with translating safety documents to ensure they are accessible across the company. He shares, “We’ve also created a Spanish version of our daily task analysis through our safety culture app.  This resource is regularly updated for our crew members, providing them with a comprehensive view of their current scenarios. By meticulously assessing whether they followed each step, they can proactively mitigate risks specific to their job.”

Edgar plans to continue a long career with WTI, and while he admits that roofing is hard work, he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
