Ronald McDonald House Charities Partnership

SEP - IndNews - Alliance - Ronald McDonald House Charities Partnership
October 3, 2018 at 1:17 p.m.

The Alliance will identify one or more Alliance members (or NRCA members if Alliance members are not available) to align with each house.

At the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress' April 2017 annual meeting, the membership committed to enter a partnership agreement with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Through the agreement, Alliance members will endeavor to inspect, maintain, repair and—whenever possible—replace the roofs on the 165 standalone Ronald McDonald houses throughout the U.S.

RMCH is operated with the support of McDonald's Corp., headquartered in Chicago. Each of the 165 houses is independently owned and operated, and all are established as 501(c)(3) corporations. The houses' core purpose is to provide a home for family members of children who are being treated at a hospital. Many of the children have cancer; others were born prematurely. Some of the houses also serve families of veterans

The houses provide private sleeping rooms, meals and support, offering opportunities for families to interact as they go through their difficult times. Families are asked to pay a nominal fee to stay in the houses, but no family is turned away if the fee is prohibitive. Some of the houses are located within hospitals, but most are self-standing structures located near hospitals.

Each house has its own board of directors, and most have a full-time staff. Board members often are community leaders, and the houses are generally in good shape and well managed. Each house typically does its own fundraising and may receive support from the national office, which helps to plan for the ongoing maintenance of the houses, including scheduling roof repairs and replacements.

The houses range from single-family homes to high-rise apartment buildings. The roofs, likewise, range from small low-slope assemblies to complicated steep-slope projects. Alliance member EagleView Technologies Inc., Tarpon Springs, Fla., has committed to provide aerial reports on each of the houses' roofs.

The Alliance will identify one or more Alliance members (or NRCA members if Alliance members are not available) to align with each house. The Alliance member will conduct regular inspections of the roof, ensure it is properly maintained, perform repairs when necessary, and be involved when the roof needs to be replaced.

Roof replacements will be managed as individual projects, and, when appropriate, several contractors may be asked to participate. In addition, we anticipate materials being donated by manufacturers and/or distributors on a project-by-project basis.

RMHC has committed to include the Alliance in its communications and public relations efforts, including those on social media. The Alliance and NRCA will reciprocate, including by providing individual assistance to those members who are part of each project.

The RMHC-Alliance partnership is the first of its kind; all other RMHC partnerships are with Fortune 500 corporations. For more information about the Alliance's partnership with RMHC and how you can get involved, contact:
