Preserving history without compromise

Preserving history without compromise
May 23, 2025 at 6:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

When this historic hotel needed a roof restoration, the challenge wasn’t just installing 200 squares of Ludowici clay tile, it was doing it without disturbing the architectural integrity that makes the building iconic.

When Dallas County Roofing restored an historic hotel in Galveston, Texas, every detail mattered. With 200 squares of Ludowici clay tile to install, they needed to deliver a high-performance solution while respecting the integrity of the century-old structure. To meet this challenge, they used APOC® Polyset AH-160, a two-component roof tile adhesive with a preservation-friendly application.

Unlike traditional methods relying on nails, screws, mortar or wire tie systems, AH-160 bonds each tile individually without mechanical fasteners, eliminating roof deck penetrations to protect both the waterproofing membrane and the structure beneath. Approved by Miami-Dade, the Florida Building Code and the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), AH-160 offers proven performance across regions facing high wind and severe weather events. On the Gulf Coast, this resilience is essential.

The crew used AH-160's refillable system, which offers a lower applied cost per square foot and faster coverage rates than disposable kits. These systems require minimal equipment, reduce landfill waste and include patented features like ColorWise™ Temperature Warning Nozzles to ensure optimal application conditions.

APOC’s Texas team delivered hands-on training and certification to the installation crew, ensuring best practices and proper use on site. The end result was a weather-resistant tile roof that honors the building’s historic design while contributing to a sustainable, long-lasting roofing solution.

Discover how APOC Polyset AH-160 Roof Tile Adhesive can deliver lasting performance, easy installation and long-term durability without compromising the integrity of your next roofing project.
