Meet Sandra Medina, Answer Me This! Winner

Construction Solutions Sandra Medina
October 8, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

Each week someone wins a prize for answering a question, next week’s winner could be you!

Answer Me This! is one of the most popular contests at RoofersCoffeeShop® (RCS) because there is a winner every single week. Answer Me This! is sponsored by Gibraltar Building Accessories as part of their ‘Construction Solutions’ campaign designed to supply feedback from contractors to help them continue to innovate. Participants answer one question and then are entered into our weekly drawing to win either pizza, donuts or an RCS Box of Love.

Sandra Medina from Beldon Roofing in San Antonio, Texas was one of our recent winners and she chose an RCS Box of Love as her prize. I had a nice conversation with Sandra to learn her roofing story.

“I was working at a law firm and I was miserable,” said Sandra. “One day I called my mother and said, ‘I can’t stay here anymore, would you pray with me about a new job?’ We talked about what I wanted to do, and I said I always wanted to work for a Jewish family business, so she prayed for me.”

It was about two weeks later that a friend of hers said they had an interview with a contractor and didn’t really want to work there. They asked her if she was interested. Sandra contacted the headhunter, who put her in touch with Mike Beldon. “We met at a coffee shop and he offered me the job on the spot,” said Sandra. “He said I had to go take a test to make sure I wasn’t crazy, and I was sure I was going to fail. But then I got a call from him asking if I could start Monday. I ended up being Mike’s secretary for 10 years until he retired.”

After a short time at the company, it dawned on Sandra that the Beldon family is Jewish and that her prayers really were answered. She also realized that Mike’s son Brad, who was working in the company was a classmate of hers growing up. “We went to middle school and high school together,” explained Sandra.

After Mike retired, Brad transitioned from production manager to company president and it made sense for Sandra to work with Brad. She said it was an opportunity for her to learn more and take on more responsibility. “I used to do everything for Mike, but Brad does everything himself, so it gave me a chance to learn and grow,” explained Sandra.

She said that they experienced hailstorms in the area one time when Brad was traveling so, she stepped in, figuring she could handle it, and she did. “I became much more involved in the day-to-day activity so Brad could shift his focus to growing the business,” said Sandra. “I work with great people on both the residential and commercial roofing teams. Our goal is to all row in same direction. I’ve been here 27 years now. It’s a great place to work, to learn. It’s not a job it’s a career, its not a company, it’s a family,” shared Sandra.

She explained that everyone there is in it “to be a blessing to our families to make money so our kids can go to college.” She appreciates the company’s commitment to the community as they are always supporting causes through donations and giving back.

Sandra’s official role at Beldon Roofing is a vice president and she is the residential roofing manager. She oversees the team that sells residential roofing and other home improvement products. “I manage processes, their time, review estimates,” said Sandra. “I am with them a lot, I show them how to use the resources that we have, I talk to them all day long, every single day throughout the day or at my office.”

Sandra says that she discovered RoofersCoffeeShop® (RCS) while she was on a marketing call and googled Beldon Roofing to see how they were doing. One of the results was for our site. She started reading some of the content and was very interested in learning more. Fortunately, she decided to participate in the Answer Me This! and was selected as our winner.

When she is not working, she enjoys leading her weekly bible study. She recently moved in with her aging mother to care for her following the passing of her father earlier this year. Sandra also has been finding things to do outside like visit parks and take walks with her sister.
