Rhoden Roofing, a Wichita-based roofing company, has partnered with GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, to establish the Rhoden Roofing & GAF Promise Scholarship supporting students enrolled in Wichita State University’s Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) Construction Technology Program. The scholarships will help to reduce financial barriers for students pursuing careers in roofing and construction, strengthening the pipeline of skilled professionals entering the industry.
Through the scholarships, four students pursuing careers in the construction industry will each receive $1,250, totaling $5,000 in jointly funded support from Rhoden Roofing and GAF. Students enrolled in WSU Tech’s Construction Technology program receive hands-on training in safety, framing, blueprint reading, job estimating and other core construction skills that prepare them for residential and commercial careers.
“One of our core values at Rhoden Roofing is to evolve & adapt — to be lifelong students who are always learning and improving,” said John Rhoden, owner of Rhoden Roofing. “Supporting WSU Tech allows us to extend that commitment beyond our company and invest in the next generation of construction professionals. We’re grateful to partner with GAF through its Community Matters program to create meaningful opportunities for students and give back to our community."
This effort is part of GAF Community Matters, the company’s social impact initiative focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to address the unique needs of our hometown communities, including supporting education and training to help build careers in the roofing industry.
“We’re proud to partner with Rhoden Roofing to support students right here in south-central Kansas,” said Jim Durkin, chief customer experience officer at GAF. “With our newest manufacturing facility being constructed in nearby Newton, investing in local construction education is not only meaningful; it’s essential. Programs like WSU Tech’s Construction Technology pathway help develop the skilled workforce our industry depends on, ensuring we continue to build strong roofs, strong careers, and strong communities across the region.”
“Rhoden Roofing and GAF are helping our students change their lives by establishing the Rhoden Roofing and GAF Promise Scholarship,” said Dr. Jennifer Seymour, Ed.D., vice president of general education & applied technologies at WSU Tech. “Their investment strengthens our mission by removing financial barriers and creating real pathways for students to succeed in construction programs at WSU Tech. Together, they are supporting students who will shape the future of our workforce and our community.”
