Field Technician Finds Endless Opportunities at This Roofing Company

WTI KeKoa Kruszona Endless Opportunities
September 8, 2023 at 6:00 a.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt.

KeKoa Kruszona shares his journey in the roofing world, including his current position at WTI.

Field Resource Technician KeKoa Kruszona, has been with Tremco Roofing and Weatherproofing Technologies Incorporated (WTI) since 2016, but his journey in roofing has been for much longer. Previously, he worked as a contractor for his father’s construction company, Pacific Island Construction. When his dad decided to retire and sell his share of the company, KeKoa began working with Tremco who he had a good relationship with already.

Today, KeKoa works with WTI as a Field Resource Technician, performing inspections and repairs specifically for weatherproofing roofs with Tremco products. He is based in Hawaii and services the Pacific Northwest area of the U.S.

“Working under WTI has been quite an experience. You get a lot of traveling where I'm at,” KeKoa said. “I do patch and repairs with any of the products that we install in whatever facilities — hospitals, government, commercial buildings.”

One of his favorite parts of his current position is troubleshooting for their customers. KeKoa told us that he likes the challenge of having to think methodically when a customer presents them with a problem. “I enjoy using my mind to try the process of elimination when it comes to lead calls, because obviously someone else couldn't figure it out, so okay, maybe I'll give my brain a go at it and see if I can figure it out,” he said.

KeKoa has recently taken a few online classes from Tremco’s RISE apprenticeship program. He has completed some of the classes that Tremco University offers and is waiting to enroll in the fall semester at the University of Akron. He says that Tremco University provides a straightforward learning environment and allows students to progress their roofing careers.

As for his future with WTI, KeKoa says that the company offers endless opportunities. He shared that once he completes the apprenticeship program that he hopes to take their business management program so he can learn more about the sales side of the roofing industry.

“I'll try the business management program that we offer for our Construction Management degree,” he said. “I'm leaning more towards sales just because I've been in construction for so long. I'm trying to get out of the hot sun.”
