Atlas Roofing Corporation has enhanced the solar reflectivity performance of its Pinnacle® Sun shingle line, offering homeowners and contractors greater energy efficiency and expanded design options. The updated line features increased Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) values across all cool color offerings, with improvements of approximately 15% to 25%, depending on the color. The higher ratings help roofs reflect more radiant heat, reducing heat transfer into homes while supporting indoor comfort.
Atlas has also introduced Cool Oyster, a cool gray color with an initial SRI rating of 25 - their highest SRI rating yet. The new option combines solar reflectivity with a versatile appearance designed to complement a range of home styles.
“Atlas continues to focus on meaningful product improvements that deliver real value in the field,” said Stephanie Daniels, senior director of strategy and innovation. “By increasing solar reflectivity across the Pinnacle Sun line, we’re helping contractors offer a stronger energy efficiency story while giving homeowners more sustainable options without compromising on design or performance.”
Manufacturing updates include enhanced granule blending and a refined application method intended to create richer colors, more unified blend patterns and greater visual consistency across the roof.
Pinnacle Sun shingles incorporate several 3M technologies, including 3M™ Cool Roofing granules, Scotchgard™ Protector by 3M and 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules. Cool Roofing granules reflect radiant heat, while Scotchgard™ Protector by 3M helps prevent algae-related black streaks that can darken the roof surface. This duo of technologies ensures the reflectivity of the cooling granules continues to work over time. The smog-reducing granules convert smog-causing pollutants into water-soluble ions that wash away with rain.
“These enhancements are designed to deliver stronger performance without changing how contractors install the product,” said Paul Casseri, category director for shingles, warranties and accessories. “It’s an easy upgrade that supports energy efficiency, long-term durability and overall roof system performance.”
The enhanced shingles are available nationwide and meet California Title 24 requirements, with select colors meeting additional local standards.
