CertainTeed®, a leading North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, has announced that several of its residential roofing products have achieved GreenCircle Certification for Recycled Content for the third year in a row. Recognized by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the GreenCircle Certification is one of the most esteemed environmental verifications an organization can earn. Through a thorough assessment process, GreenCircle Certification ensures certified organizations are implementing comprehensive and effective sustainability practices. The organization verified that CertainTeed’s manufacturing facilities in Fremont, California; Jonesburg, Missouri; Portland, Oregon; and Shakopee, Minnesota used raw material containing high levels of pre-consumer recycled across various product lines — limiting substantial amounts of waste during the product development process.
"Homeowners passionate about sustainability are increasingly looking for eco-friendly products that don't compromise on the durability and longevity of their homes," said Amanda Boyer, product manager at CertainTeed Residential Roofing Products Group. "At CertainTeed, we're dedicated to evolving and investing in environmental initiatives that align with our mission to produce products that reduce waste and offer lasting solutions. By incorporating recycled content into our leading roofing portfolio, we're fostering a more circular economy and committing to reducing our environmental impact, all while helping you build your forever home."
This certification increases the transparency and credibility of CertainTeed’s goals, making it easier for consumers to understand the proactive initiatives the company is taking to maximize growth as a sustainable brand. Some findings from the GreenCircle Certification evaluation period of October 2022 to September 2023 include:
CertainTeed makes all product information and documentation accessible for buyers through its Ecomedes-powered site, a tool to obtain product performance and sustainability information including ecolabel certifications, rating system contributions, recycled content and reusability and more. Additionally, through programs like Ashpaltica®, CertainTeed encourages contractors and homeowners to recycle old roof systems at the end of their lifecycle that can be utilized for projects in various industries.
