How SRS Distribution’s XTV Team turns tailgates into unforgettable roofing events.  

Looking for a fun way to build your roofing community and professional network? Look no further than SRS Distribution’s Xtreme Tailgate Vehicle (XTV) tour!  XTV is a fleet of SRS vehicles that travel the country hosting tailgate parties that build strong bonds between SRS, their customers and their suppliers. Keenan Perry, SRS’ director of field and event marketing, explained their goal with these tours. Keenan shared, “We just try to create a much more relaxed space where you can go get off your feet, have a conversation, meet like- minded professionals and truly just soak in the SRS ethos of, ‘Make money, have fun and give back.’” 

Meet the behind-the-scenes team!  

Justin Tognoni  

Justin hails from Wyoming where he grew up working on a ranch from the back of a horse. He then found his way to the U.S. Forest Service, where he was a Class B Sawyer. Years later he found himself building a gastropub with a couple of friends in Port Angeles, Washington (Next Door Gastropub if you want to go visit)! Today he lives in Florida and works as XTV’s field marketing manager.  

In his own words: “I met the love of my life in my pub in 2018. She was working on a yacht, and since she was from Florida, that meant that I better liquidate my assets and move there! So here I am, running the most unique department I have ever seen or heard of! And I love it!” Outside his work with XTV, he can be found cheering on the Denver Broncos at a tailgate, cooking Slap Ya Mama Chicken Drummies!  

Adrian Guzman  

Texas born and raised, Adrian started his career as a police officer. After serving for over two decades, he moved into his current position as one of XTV’s operations specialists. Adrien is a proud Texan and can be found cheering on the Dallas Cowboys over some perfectly smoked brisket no matter where he is in the country. In his words: “The XTV Tour’s been a blast, and I love sharing real Texas BBQ and its bold flavor with folks in other states.” 

Scott Kennedy  

Scott’s story starts in Georgia when he was in high school working summer landscape jobs. Over the next 20 years, he worked his way up through the landscaping world, dabbling in everything from landscape maintenance to pool installation. He was a key player in Heritage’s opening of a Woodstock, Georgia location and then transitioned into his current role as one of XTV’s operations specialists.  

In his words: “I joined the XTV team in August of 2024 and have had the time of my life providing this experience for our people. Make money, have fun, give back...our team embodies that motto.” In his personal time, you can find him camping, hunting, fishing, cooking brisket and cheering on the Falcons, Braves and Ole Miss.

With XTV, SRS Distribution has created a networking space that is not only a great business opportunity, but also a ton of fun.  

When it comes to summertime activities, it’s hard to beat a good tailgate party. From good food and friends to the fun sports match, there’s a lot to love about tailgating. And SRS Distribution has added networking and community-building to the list for roofers! In this Roofing Road Trips® episode, Megan Ellsworth chats with Keenan Perry, SRS’ director of field and event marketing, and Justin Tognoni, their field marketing manager, about how they have built a space for roofers to find community, connection and culture in the Xtreme Tailgate Vehicle (XTV).  

XTV is transforming the way that roofers network with each other. Keenan elaborated, “XTV is a fleet of vehicles that travel the country and bring tailgating experiences to SRS/Heritage branches and sporting events across the country.” The original idea for XTV came from Ron Ross, the SRS founder. Keenan explained, “Ron Ross found himself at a tailgate thrown by colleagues and customers. It really inspired him, he was like ‘Hey, this is a really cool thing that we've got going on. What if we just did this around the country as a customer appreciation thing?’ So that's how the XTV was founded and it's been rolling ever since.” 

Now, 15 years after Ron attended that tailgate and became inspired, XTV is a powerful source of connection between SRS, their customers and their suppliers. Keenan explained, “We just try to create a much more relaxed space where you can go get off your feet, have a conversation, meet like-minded professionals and truly just soak in the SRS ethos of, ‘Make money, have fun and give back.’” And these tailgates have become a must-attend event in the industry. Justin gave an example, saying, “We were at an event in San Diego recently and when we arrived and set up I was expecting a pretty good turnout. There’s a ballpark number of people that usually attend. But this one was crazy, we had easily over 150 people. It really was a community thing.”

The 2025 SRS/Heritage XTV MLS tour will be rolling into a city near you; and you don’t want to miss it!

These spring events are sure to be fun as you and your colleagues cheer on soccer (or football if you hail from across the pond) clubs. The Xtreme Tailgate Vehicle will be stopping at 14 different locations around the country. They have already been to Tampa and Orlando, Florida for Orlando City versus Inter Miami and Toronto versus Orlando City respectively. Just recently, they made it over to Frisco, Texas for the Chicago versus FC Dallas game.

No matter who you're cheering and chanting for, these parties are a fun way to enjoy the company of your fellow roofing professionals and sports fans. Their next stop will be in Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. CT for the LAFC versus Sporting KC game. If you’re in the area, make sure to gear up in your team colors and meet the Xtreme Tailgate Vehicle in Children's Mercy Park. Not only is this a great opportunity to bond and network, but there will also be delicious food and drinks available.

From the Student Competition and NRCA Awards to tailgates and concerts, day two of IRE 2025 did not disappoint!

Editor’s note: The following is the transcript of a conversation The Coffee Shops crew had after day two of the International Roofing Expo (IRE).

Karen Edwards: Day two of the International Roofing Expo is behind us, and it was a great day. We were out on the show floor. We were doing soundstage videos all day long, and then we had the NRCA Awards Ceremony, and we got to see the winners of all the awards. We got to see Tomato Soup play from three to five at the SRS Tailgate. And then after the awards ceremony, Lauren and Dani went to the SRS concert. We went back to the house, invited a few friends over, and had a little jam session. And now here we are, beginning of day three. 

Zane Delucci: I had a great time on day two. I really liked our interview with Owens Corning. The carpet at their booth was like walking on clouds. I also really liked the SOPREMA booth, which had a living wall and was a replica of their new headquarters in Ohio. They were really nice too. I'm excited for day three.

Alex Tolle: Day two was just as busy as day one. A lot of contractors came by the booth and were super excited about what we do. We signed up three new R-club members and did a couple interviews with the new members, both on the soundstage and just in the booth, and then got to sneak away to go see the Tomato Soup concert, which was amazing.

Itzel Najera: We started off seeing the Student Competitions, and that was really interesting. It was nice seeing the students present. I really enjoyed that. And then we headed off to the SRS Para Latinos lounge, and we got to see Alan Lopez present, Octavio Vasquez from Owens Coming, and we got to interview Julissa Chavez and her partners. And it was really neat just having the conversations, to have everything and the collaboration together. And then we got to see Tomato Soup, which is really nice. It was very cold outside, but I really enjoyed the concert. And then we ended the day by going to the NRCA Awards. And that was pretty neat seeing who won the Student Competition.

Megan Ellsworth: Day two of IRE was jam packed with really great interviews on our soundstage and on the show floor. We chatted with MetalForming, Gaco, Duro-Last, BITEC, ATAS, and lots of other fun partners, and we had a great time. The show floor was still absolutely jam packed as well, and the soundstage was buzzing the whole day. And performing with Tomato Soup Band was very, very fun. Thank you, SRS for having us!

Evelyn Witterholt: Day two was really busy again at the soundstage, but really productive and good. We had a really great Coffee Conversations, and I, once again, got a lot of great content for our social media. And then we got to interview the students from the Student Competition, which was fun. And it was the first year I had seen a student team that was comprised of all women, which is really cool. I also got to check out Tomato Soup at the SRS XTV tailgate! 

Dani Sheehan: Day two was a whirlwind. It was so cool to see the Student Competition. I got to sit in on three of the six teams present. And it's just incredible the amount of work and planning that they put into it and how polished they are. And then the judges throw them a few curveballs with the questions they ask, and they still somehow pull it together. So that was really great. And then we jumped on the expo floor. I got to start my day with Megan and end my day with Karen, which was really great. They have very similar yet different styles of interviews, which was fun to observe. And Karen and I had a lot of fun with Chad Rowe with some audio problems, but it gave us a chance to catch up with him and see the MetalForming booth in action. So overall, I think it was a really great day. And then Lauren and I froze at the SRS charity concert, but it was really great. Whiskey Myers sounded awesome and we sang along to a few songs.

Jessica Bravo: Day two was a blast. We did more interviews. We walked around and spent most of our day at the SRS Para Latinos lounge, interviewing SRS partners. We also met a lot of contractors with Latinos en Roofing, attended more sessions hosted at the SRS Para Latinos lounge. Alan Lopez with GAF hosted another session where he talked about Latinos in the industry and how companies should hire bilingual people and people who understand the culture. Octavio Vasquez with Owens Corning and Kate Apunte also hosted a session at the SRS Para Latinos lounge too. 

Lauren White: Day two started off with the Roofing Alliance Student Competition, which is always such a fun event. I got to watch a few of the teams give their presentations, and I'm always just so impressed with the quality of the work and seeing how they all present differently. And like other people have said, they're just very professional, and it's hard to believe that they're college students, but looking at the next generation of roofing industry professionals is pretty exciting. And then Zane and I had another full day of floor interviews. And it’s really fun to see people get so excited about the interviews. We've gotten a lot of full booth tours, which has been fun because people put a lot of time and energy into planning these booths. And to be able to bring that to people who aren't able to make it for whatever reason to IRE is pretty great. 

Dani and I went to the SRS concert, which was our second concert of the day. We also got to watch Tomato Soup play at the SRS tailgate, which was so fun. I've never heard their whole band play live. And then at the SRS concert, a lot of money was raised, and we got to hear Treaty Oak Revival and Flatland Cavalry as the openers, and we found a great heater we stood next to all night and hung out with Todd Farr from EVERROOF. Whiskey Myers put on a great show. And now we're getting ready for day three. Overall, a great day two, lots of energy and people are just really excited to be here.

Day two proved to be just as amazing as day one at IRE 2023!

Editor's note: The following is a transcript of a conversation the Coffee Shop crew had after day two of the International Roofing Expo 2023. 

Karen Edwards: Hey, this is Karen and we just wrapped up day two of the International Roofing Expo. This is the end of day two at IRE and what an amazing day it was. We are going to share with you what some of our highlights of the day were. And I don't even know where to start because it was an amazing show. There were so many people here. We had amazing conversations on our soundstage. So I am gonna go around the table as we debrief and I'm going to start with Heidi Ellsworth and ask you to share what you were most excited for about day two.

Heidi Ellsworth: I was so excited about the Roofing Alliance Student Competition. I love watching the students I love them presenting and at the end of the day, having Clemson win was so exciting because Karen and I have both presented at Clemson. And all the schools did a great job. We thought they were great but it was just really fun to see that team and see Dhaval as their professor, but you know I have to say probably one of my favorite things, every day of this week, but today was the interviews. We interviewed all these teams, so we got to talk to all the student teams, or most of them. And then I got to interview people like Joel and David from BiTec who are just so fun. And the DaVinci folks it was just great to hear all the wonderful things that are happening in the industry, the innovation, the technology, everything that's happening. It's pretty impressive and I liked that part. So, great day. Great day looking forward for day three.

Lauren White: James and I wandered around the trade show floor again interviewing people and just saying hi to people, which was great. Everybody was very receptive to you know, doing our TikTok and social media videos and interviews that we can put on the site, which was cool, because this is the first time we've done this in such a big capacity, I think. 

And the Student Competition was really fun. Got to see all of the teams, I didn't finish Bradley University's presentation unfortunately, but I got to at least see them start which was very cool and talk to almost all the teams. I shuttled them back and forth between the Roofing Alliance booth and our soundstage to interview and they're all just wonderful people and very well spoken and very mature for undergraduate students and it's just fun to see them and interact with them because a lot of the roofing industry is older and seeing younger people around the floor is really fun and hearing their excitement about roofing along with me because I didn't think roofing could be exciting and here we are. So yeah, that was really fun and very excited for Clemson. All of the students were very deserving of an award. But Clemson did a great job. And Duvall is great and yeah, that was our day.

Heidi Ellsworth: Can I add one thing on that? And the presenter, the young man from Colorado who won presenter, Dylan Smithwick. He was phenomenal.

Tim Ellsworth: And I think what impressed me about this show is we were very busy in the booth. But I had numerous people or companies come up and say, ‘We love what RoofersCoffeeShop is doing for the industry. And this is not one, two, three or four. This was over a dozen. I mean, and so that, to me, means we're making an impact. And people are noticing RoofersCoffeeShop. So that's what I take away from this this day, and or these last two days. And I love the fact that I've run out of swag. I do have some stuff for tomorrow. And so come by 9309 and, and say hi to us, and we'll get you fitted up. Thank you.

Karen Edwards: I do want to ask? Well, before I ask I will recap that we had many interviews at the booth today. That were amazing and I hope people just watch them on YouTube. It's so fun and it's so interesting. So I had Dave Chapman from Estimating Edge, he was so nervous and he was like, you made it so easy. I was so comfortable. And that's what it is. That's why you should watch these videos because it's just an easy, comfortable, casual conversation. 

But I don't want to exit the conversation right now without talking about our very own Megan performing as Ellsworth at the SRS Extreme Tailgate at three o'clock and I wasn't there. Heidi and Tim were there, now they're the parents. But I understand there was some YouTube Live video on our YouTube channel. But if you want to get a taste of it, you should go out there and check. So Heidi told me about the crowd at the SRS tailgate and what that was like What was so awesome. 

Heidi Ellsworth: There were a number of people who came just to see Megan, I mean, like the word spread, and we were in there and people kept coming. And they would say we're here to see me. We're here to see me and so it was it was like people from the conference just kept on showing up and all of our friends, I mean they're all friends but like customers, National Women in Roofing and roofing influencers I mean, everybody was there and they were there to support Megan and look they love her music and we heard some great things about it. And you know, I can't say enough for SRS Distribution. Everyone has supported everything so much. I've been amazed, there's just a lot of support out there in the industry and what they're doing and bringing music, bringing influencers, bringing speakers, sponsoring, teaching. Really fabulous. So it was great. I got to see Dan Tinker. He was there listening to Megan and that was pretty dang cool. Yeah.

Karen Edwards: I will wrap us up. I want to mention that you went to the book signing and Lauren and did for The House That She Built. I did see the book. Yeah, I saw the little inscribed note. That was totally awesome. So tomorrow is the last day of the show. Yeah, there's some educational sessions in the morning. We will be doing one with RT3. Oh, I wish we could share the recording that I had. If you want to see it, but it's going to be amazing. With our future workforce panels. It's at 9:30 Thursday morning, and it's just going to be fabulous. Yes. So I encourage everyone to go, we're gonna be running around like crazy tomorrow. As you know, so usually the last day of a trade show is kind of slow and kind of boring. And I don't think tomorrow is gonna be, it's been so busy here.

Heidi Ellsworth: The soundstage is full all day long. People signed up to come be interviewed on soundstage until the very last until breakdown

Karen Edwards: We have a podcaster Patrick Carr, who sought us out, waited like 15 minutes to meet us and invited us to be on his podcast tomorrow but our schedules are so busy so we worked it out that I'm going to be able to be over there. Heidi has a meeting I understand that we're going to talk about everything we're doing national and everything. I did not know who he was. Yeah. So he found us because he keeps seeing our stuff pop up on social and he thanked us for everything we're doing to help him know about what's going on in the industry. So then people if you're not following along, follow along, you will get a wealth of information. And I don't know if that podcast is live tomorrow. I don't know how much information I'm just gonna show up and talk and I'm really good at that. So hopefully you guys listen we'll promote it.
