The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has completed its annual Accident Prevention Contest and is proud to recognize 82 asphalt roofing manufacturing facilities for their workplace safety, specifically low incident rates among workers.

Facilities that entered the 2025 Accident Prevention Contest were judged based on ARMA criteria derived from the standards set by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This information is gathered through quarterly safety data reports from the past calendar year.

“We are proud of the commitment that ARMA members have to a safe work environment for all employees,” said ARMA’s executive vice president Reed Hitchcock. “These facilities continue to maintain high standards in plant health and safety.”

Every year, ARMA’s manufacturer members are invited to participate in the Accident Prevention Contest by submitting data from their entire company, a specific division or an individual plant or mill in North America. Winners are honored in four different categories with a “perfect” score, meaning that zero safety incidents were recorded.

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

The result is a smarter, more reliable approach to solar that simplifies installation, enhances long-term value and sets a new benchmark for integrated solar roofing systems.

CertainTeed, a leading North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, continues to redefine what’s possible in the solar industry by delivering comprehensive, system-based solutions rooted in resiliency, efficiency and trust. This leadership is further strengthened by the launch of the new Solstice Mounting System.

The Solstice Mounting System reinforces CertainTeed’s commitment to solar roofing by combining speed, strength and versatility in a single, fully engineered solution. Designed specifically for pitched roof applications, the Solstice Mounting System features a lightweight yet high-strength rail design that supports both portrait and landscape module orientations and offers compatibility with rafter or deck attachments. Pop-on universal clamps and single-tool installation help streamline the installation process, while integrated wire management enables clean, professional results across a wide range of residential roof types.

More than a mounting solution, Solstice represents the next evolution of CertainTeed’s system-first approach to solar roofing where every component is designed to work together seamlessly.

“CertainTeed has long been trusted for offering the industry’s most comprehensive warranties for roofing and solar systems,” said Andrew Wickham, senior director of solar products at CertainTeed. “With the introduction of the Solstice Mounting System, we are now the first company to offer high-quality asphalt shingle roofing materials, an industry-leading solar mounting system and modern solar panels, all backed by comprehensive warranties from a single, 120-year-old brand that contractors and homeowners trust.”

Building on this full systems approach, CertainTeed is also expanding Solstice beyond the rooftop with the launch of the Solstice Ground Mount for traditional ground-mounted solar projects. Solstice Ground Mount features a streamlined, pipe-based design enhanced by advanced engineering, delivering a low-cost, high-performance system that accommodates a wide range of soil conditions. This expansion allows installers to rely on the same trusted Solstice platform across rooftop and ground-mount applications, simplifying product selection while maintaining consistent quality and performance standards.

With the complete Solstice Mounting System, spanning rooftop and ground mount, CertainTeed further solidifies its role as a single-source provider for solar roofing solutions. Contractors and homeowners benefit from a streamlined, fully compatible system that eliminates the complexity of sourcing components from multiple manufacturers. From the roof itself to the solar array above it, CertainTeed delivers a thoughtfully engineered, end-to-end solution that combines roofing shingles, solar mounting and solar panels, all supported by a single brand, a single warranty and a single trusted partner.

The result is a smarter, more reliable approach to solar that simplifies installation, enhances long-term value and sets a new benchmark for integrated solar roofing systems.

Learn how education, manufacturer relationships and technology are shaping how roofing contractors build stronger businesses and earn customer trust.

For roofing contractors, sustained growth is rarely the result of installation skills alone. It is built through a combination of ongoing education, reliable manufacturer partnerships and a steady commitment to adapting as the industry evolves. That dynamic was on display during this episode of the Roofing Road Trips® podcast recorded live during a business-building workshop sponsored by CertainTeed, at Fenway Park in Boston. The conversation featured Robert Rich, a Connecticut contractor whose career spans 28 years, offering a clear view into how experienced professionals are approaching growth in a changing market.

For Robert, the value of events like this starts with exposure, not just to new ideas, but to practical tools and conversations that directly influence how a business operates in the field. “Listen, it’s so jam packed,” he said. “And that’s why we come to these things. It’s why they’re so important to us.” That intensity reflects the pace of an industry where processes, materials and expectations are constantly evolving, something Robert sees firsthand in his own work. He described how staying current is not optional but built into how he operates, from the way his crews are trained to how his business adapts in real time to new standards and customer expectations.

That same mindset carries into his day-to-day operations, where training is treated as a continuous system rather than a one-time step. New employees are brought into structured learning environments that emphasize proper installation methods, safety protocols and a full understanding of how roofing systems perform. In coastal markets, where roofs are regularly exposed to ice damming, high winds and sustained moisture, that preparation becomes essential, ensuring crews deliver work that holds up under real-world conditions rather than failing under pressure.

At the same time, those installation standards are reinforced through strong manufacturer relationships. Robert pointed to his long-standing alignment with CertainTeed as a critical factor in maintaining consistency across projects. “That relationship is very important to me because they have my back as I have theirs,” he said. A dynamic Robert sees as a true partnership, where both sides stay aligned to make sure every system performs the way it is supposed to in the field

As operations evolve, technology is increasingly shaping how contractors communicate that reliability to customers. Tools that track storm activity, document completed work and showcase past projects are helping contractors demonstrate credibility before a project even begins, strengthening both transparency and brand trust.

Looking ahead, Robert emphasizes that this same focus on sustainability extends to workforce development. By engaging with trade schools and supporting new entrants into the field, contractors are working to reduce barriers to entry and build a more confident, prepared next generation. Robert expressed that need from personal experience, noting the uncertainty many face early on: “I was there. I know what that nervousness is. It’s ‘What am I going to do when I leave this place?’”

As the industry continues to shift, the path forward is becoming clearer, contractors who integrate training, relationships and technology into a unified approach are positioning their businesses for long-term stability and growth.

A fire-resistant (FR) version of Flintlastic® SA Cap CoolStar® Ultra is also available for assemblies requiring high solar reflectivity in combination with a Class A fire rating and/or Class IV impact resistance.

With this latest expansion, CertainTeed now extends CoolStar® Ultra technology to customers who prefer self-adhered roofing systems, delivering greater installation flexibility while maintaining high solar reflectivity and long-term performance. These products are listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC Product ID: 0668-0161 and 0668-0162).

“As demand grows for safer, faster-installed cool roofing solutions, we’re continuing to expand where CoolStar® Ultra can be used,” said Liang Gwee, product manager, commercial roofing at CertainTeed. “By bringing CoolStar® Ultra technology to our self-adhered systems, we’re delivering a high-reflectivity, Title 31 compliant solution that installs faster, eliminates flames and fumes and provides the long-term durability and multi-ply protection customers rely on.”

S.A.F.E. Roofing with Flintlastic® SA

Flintlastic® SA systems are engineered with the S.A.F.E. roofing approach - Speed, affordability, fume & flame free and easy to learn - helping contractors complete projects more efficiently without sacrificing performance.

Speed: CertainTeed commissioned an independent third-party comparison of labor efficiencies across multiple popular low-slope roofing systems, including multi-layer modified bitumen and single-ply. Results showed that a two- or three-ply Flintlastic® SA system installed faster than traditional modified bitumen application methods and single-ply systems. Contractors can view the side-by-side time trial for additional insights.

Affordability: While material costs for multi-ply modified bitumen systems may exceed single-ply, labor efficiencies help offset those differences. When labor savings are factored in, installed costs are comparable, while delivering the superior protection of a multi-ply roof system.

Fume & flame free: Flintlastic® SA eliminates the need for kettles or torches. Installation requires only a weighted roller to achieve a bond comparable to traditional modified bitumen methods.

Easy to learn: CertainTeed Credentialed Contractors report faster skill acquisition with Flintlastic® SA self-adhered installation compared to other roofing application methods.

Nearly 500 attendees engaged in education, networking and business growth at a regional workshop in Miami.

At LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, nearly 500 contractors convened for the CertainTeed Business Builders Workshop, representing a growing industry focus on education, collaboration and long-term business development. Bringing together contractors, manufacturers and vendor partners, the event offered a concentrated, one-day opportunity to explore practical strategies for navigating an increasingly complex roofing landscape.

Framed by a clear view of the playing field, the RoofersCoffeeShop® sound stage hosted live interviews, conversations and educational sessions throughout the day. Around it, attendees moved between classrooms and vendor areas, engaging with topics that reflected both immediate challenges and emerging trends. Sessions covered low-slope applications, insurance processes, solar integration and broader operational strategies.

The sound stage also became a focal point for emerging business strategies, particularly in how contractors communicate with their audiences. A podcasting class hosted by the RoofersCoffeeShop® team drew standing-room-only attendance, signaling strong interest in using digital content to support growth and visibility. Attendees actively participated, submitting business cards for the opportunity to be selected as live podcast guests during the event, an approach that reinforced both engagement and real-time learning. The level of interest reflected a broader shift within the industry, where contractors are looking beyond technical execution to develop stronger branding, storytelling and customer connection.

The ability to step away from daily operations and refocus on learning created space not only for new information, but for reflection on existing practices. As Brian Drominer from APC Roofing observed, “The classes are very informative, lots of information, a lot of takeaways. It’s very beneficial for the roofing industry for sure.”

Equally important was the presence of vendor partners, whose participation extended the learning environment beyond the classroom. Contractors were able to engage directly with suppliers, compare solutions and evaluate tools that could be implemented immediately in the field or office.

At the same time, the workshop functioned as a gathering place for the roofing community. Conversations between sessions revealed a shared interest in improving performance, adapting to regional conditions and strengthening business operations. The regional format of the event played a critical role in that dynamic, enabling companies to bring multiple team members and ensuring that knowledge gained at the event could be carried back and applied across entire organizations.

As a whole, the workshop reflected a clear shift in the industry, one that prioritizes continuous learning, stronger partnerships and practical, experience-driven growth.

Learn how integrated roofing, siding and solar solutions help contractors deliver durability, energy efficiency and design flexibility.

At the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando, Florida, resilience emerged as a defining theme across the show floor. As contractors respond to more severe weather, rising homeowner expectations and mounting insurance challenges, the conversation is shifting from individual products to whole-system performance. That broader approach was on display at the CertainTeed booth, where the company highlighted how roofing, siding and solar products can work together to strengthen the entire home.

Samantha Gillenwater, part of the product management team for CertainTeed Roofing, said durability begins with impact resistance. “When we talk about resiliency, one of the biggest things we talk about is impact resistance,” Samantha said. She pointed to the NorthGate ClimateFlex shingle, which uses polymer-modified asphalt to improve flexibility and help reduce damage from hail.

That focus speaks directly to conditions many homeowners now face. With deductibles rising and claims becoming more difficult to navigate, long-term roof performance has become a more urgent concern. Samantha said the goal is to “get it right the first time,” giving contractors a stronger way to position roofing systems built to withstand repeated weather exposure without constant replacement.

At the same time, performance expectations now extend beyond impact resistance alone. Energy efficiency and code compliance are also shaping product development, particularly in regions with stricter standards. CertainTeed’s Landmark Solaris shingles, including newly introduced colors, are designed to meet updated solar reflectance requirements in markets where those values are becoming more important. The company has also expanded its wind warranty offering, with coverage up to 160 miles per hour and unlimited coverage available when the full roofing system is installed.

That systems-driven strategy continues beyond the roofline. Kyle Miller of CertainTeed’s siding products group said contractors are increasingly looking for materials that combine performance with visual variety. “Customers are looking to provide different textures, different colors, and different mixed materials on their builds,” Kyle said. Products such as panelized stone veneer systems and polymer siding are intended to simplify installation while also improving durability and curb appeal.

Taken together, the product lineup reflects a larger shift in the market. For contractors, resilience is no longer about solving one problem at a time. It is increasingly about offering coordinated solutions that protect the full structure while helping homeowners balance durability, efficiency and design.
