W.U.I. is the zone of transition between unoccupied land and human development. It is the line, area or zone where structures and other human development meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland or vegetative fuels. This area is considered the most critical area of wildfire risk.

Ultra HT is a 45-mil, self-adhered roofing underlayment for use in steep-slope roofing and re-roofing installations. The product features a durable cross-laminated polyethylene top film with a traction coating for excellent walkability. The specially formulated mastic is rated to 250°F for high temperature roofing applications.

Ultra HT has met the standards for use in W.U.I. areas when used in conjunction with Class A asphalt shingles.

Contractors gain expanded fire-rated assembly options across metal, tile and asphalt systems. 

Roofing contractors have new flexibility in meeting fire-resistance requirements as MFM Building Products announces a Class A fire rating for its Ultra HT Wind and Water Seal® underlayment across multiple roofing systems. The designation expands its use in projects where fire performance is essential, including commercial, architectural and select residential applications. 

Designed for steep-slope roofing and re-roofing, Ultra HT is a 45-mil, self-adhered underlayment built to perform under demanding conditions. A cross-laminated polyethylene top film paired with a traction coating supports durability and jobsite safety, while a high-temperature mastic rated up to 250°F allows installation beneath metal and tile systems where heat exposure is a concern. 

The fire rating applies across a range of assemblies, giving contractors greater material flexibility. Under UL 790, the product is listed as a Class A fire-resistant barrier when used with 24-gauge minimum steel or 16-ounce copper UL-listed roofing panels. It also meets Class A performance requirements with standard three-tab and architectural asphalt shingles under ASTM E108 and ICC-ES AC188. Together, these classifications allow contractors to maintain fire-rated performance without limiting system selection. 

In addition to fire resistance, Ultra HT is designed to strengthen the overall roof assembly. The membrane adheres directly to the roof deck and seals around fasteners, helping reduce the potential for water intrusion. Its high elongation accommodates building movement, while the non-slip surface improves footing during installation. The underlayment is also compatible with a variety of substrates, including plywood and metal. 

The product has been tested and approved under multiple standards, including ASTM D 1970, Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade County approvals, ICC-ES ESR-1737 and Texas Department of Insurance listings. It carries a 10-year warranty and is manufactured in the United States. 

For contractors, the expanded Class A rating positions the underlayment as a reliable option for meeting code requirements while reinforcing long-term roof performance.

Designed for use beneath asphalt shingles, shake and metal roofing systems, StormStopper FSU is a self-adhering film surface underlayment engineered to provide dependable secondary water protection. The membrane can be installed at eaves and valleys where ice dams and wind-driven rain pose the greatest risk, or across the entire roof deck for added leak defense. It also serves as a flashing membrane around penetrations, helping contractors create a more comprehensive waterproofing strategy. 

StormStopper FSU is composed of a polymer film with an embedded traction surface laminated to a high temperature rubberized asphalt adhesive. The adhesive bonds when surface and ambient temperatures reach 45° F or higher and seals tightly around common fasteners to reduce the risk of water intrusion. With a nominal thickness of 45 mils and a split release liner for efficient placement, the product is engineered for speed and ease of installation, particularly in valley applications. 

The underlayment may be left exposed for up to 30 days and carries a five-year limited warranty. It meets ASTM D 1970 and is approved under the Florida Building Code FL 11842.1, Miami-Dade County and the Texas Department of Insurance. It is also listed in the Fortified Building Program. 

Available in 36-inch by 67-foot rolls packaged as 30 cartons per pallet, StormStopper FSU offers an economical option for budget-conscious projects without sacrificing quality. The product joins the company’s other high-temperature rated membranes, including Wind & Water Seal, Ultra HT Wind & Water Seal and Premium HT Tile & Metal, further strengthening MFM Building Products’ portfolio for demanding roofing environments.

MFM Building Products starts its anniversary year strong at IRE 2026. 

At the 2026 International Roofing Expo, Karen Edwards caught up with David Delcoma, operations manager of MFM Building Products Corp., about the company’s 65th anniversary. David, who just celebrated his own milestone of 15 years with the company, offered a brief history of the manufacturer.  

“We were founded in 1961 as a family-owned business in Ohio,” David said. “In 2017, those original owners sold the company to the employees, and we became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company. In 2026, it will be 65 years that we've been doing this.”  

Today, the company is still based in Ohio, with all products sourced and made in America. As a manufacturer of self-adhered waterproofing membranes, MFM covers applications from the rooftop to the foundation. “Right now, we manufacture around 32 different brands of products, primarily on the roofing side: roofing underlayments, roofing tapes, low slope roofing membranes. That's kind of been our hallmark,” David shared. 

This year at IRE, MFM showcased Ultra HT Wind and Water Seal, an underlayment that now has a fire rating. “It is UL listed, so it can go underneath metal roofing as well as asphalt shingles and be fire rated,” David said. “Hopefully it's going to open a lot of doors for us.” 

David also shared an update on MFM’s involvement with FORTIFIED, a program designed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), to strengthen homes and commercial buildings against specific types of severe weather such as high winds, hail, hurricanes and even tornadoes. “We’ve been with FORTIFIED almost since the beginning, at least four years,” David stated. “We have 10 products listed with FORTIFIED that help build a stronger roof to resist storms better. We have customers asking for FORTIFIED products, and we’re glad to be able to offer them that.” 

This commitment to meeting customers’ needs is a key reason why MFM has thrived for 65 years. “We’re all in it together. We want people to be safe,” David expressed. “You want to build the best you can afford, and we try and provide that for our customers.”
