Viking Products Group Showcases Sustainable Line of Roofing Products

Viking IRE 2023 5.23
May 25, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

Viking Products’ line of sustainable products that they showcased at IRE 2023 are sure to excite eco-conscious roofers and consumers alike.

At this year’s IRE, RoofersCoffeeShop’s Megan Ellsworth checked in with Steven Lane of Viking Products Group to learn more about their innovative line of environmentally friendly products that they both produce and distribute.

One of the eco-friendly products that Viking distributes is in partnership with a European company called LEADx and it’s an armored flashing product. Steven explains that the product is “non-lead, so, from a sustainability standpoint, it's an amazing story to tell. There's a new self-adhered version of it too. It's a [very] versatile, incredibly flexible, very strong, lead-free product that's actually manufactured from recycled PVB from car windshields that would've gone to a landfill. And it is completely recyclable. It’s what we call a circular product, so it's truly sustainable.”

Viking also has an array of eco-friendly restoration products as well, including a restoration coating. Steven explained, “Our storm breaker line of coatings focuses on sustainability. These highly reflective coatings can improve a building's energy efficiency while you're extending the life of that building a decade or more.” More preservation means less waste ending up in landfills. Steven continued, “I think that what we're finding with building owners, not only in the fact that a restoration coating is sustainable in and of itself, that it's UV reflective, it also reduces landfill waste.” UV reflective coatings are considered sustainable because they can help reduce energy consumption by reflecting UV radiation and cooling buildings more efficiently.

These coatings protect surfaces from degradation, increasing their lifespan and reduce the need for frequent maintenance or replacement. Overall, the use of UV reflective coatings can help reduce carbon emissions and waste, making them a sustainable solution for all roofs.
