In Diablo 4, not all items are created equal, so there’s a lot of loot to sift through on your journey across Sanctuary. Thankfully, the game splits items into tiers of color-coded rarity to help you pick out the best equipment in your inventory at a glance. Now let’s break down the Diablo 4 Items rarity levels and everything you should know!

Here are the Diablo 4 item rarity levels and their corresponding colors:

Normal – White – 0 Affixes

As the name implies, normal (white) items are the game’s least valuable and most abundant grade of gear. Defeated trash mobs will frequently yield common gear, as will lower-grade containers. They don’t have any unique or variable properties besides a basic stat boost, which is just enough to keep you alive until something better drops. But they’re still used to sell to earn gold Diablo 4 or salvage to get upgraded material.

Magic – Blue – 1 Affixes

Magical (blue) items are a step up from their common counterparts, having generally higher stats and more random modifiers, Magic items can also include one affixes. If you’re new to Diablo, don’t be fooled by the name – these items aren’t restricted to spellcasters and can be used to bolster even the scrappiest Diablo 4 Barbarian build. These magic items will become more common as time goes on, but general boons like stat bonuses, cooldown reduction, and resistances are still welcome enough.

Rare – Yellow – 3 Affixes

Rare Items are higher in quality and rarity than Magic Items. Rare items are denoted by their name being shown in yellow. Rares in Diablo 4 can have whopping random affixes (sockets are included in this count). If all affixes are desirable and their values are at the higher end of their ranges, you’ve likely found a valuable item. So for most of the game, rare items will be the standard gear you’ll be wearing.

Legendary – Orange – 5 Affixes

Legendary gear in Diablo 4 is basically “super rares” as opposed to truly being unique items with set names and functions, as they were in previous games. Legendary gear will have more mods and higher stats than more common gear and assume a similar level. They include four regular affixes along with an additional Legendary affix that’s significantly more powerful than its fellows that can significantly alter how skills and basic gameplay mechanics function. Legendaries typically drop while clearing Strongholds or after defeating powerful bosses. It’s also worth mentioning that both Legendary and Unique items are bound to your account, so don’t expect to trade high-value gear between your pals in Diablo 4 multiplayer.

Unique – Gold – 5 Affixes

Unique items are the rarest item quality currently known for Diablo 4, meaning you will only be in with a chance to receive a Unique item after overcoming some of the toughest challenges Lilith can throw at you, such as slaying world bosses or besting The Butcher. They also have a distinctive look; for example, the Butcher’s Cleaver, and come with fixed Affixes that players cannot change. Uniques are also not tradable items; since they are so powerful, we expect a tonne of “best” builds in Diablo 4 to feature specific Unique items. However, players can only equip one Unique item at a time!

Now you’ve become an expert on the Diablo 4 item rarity levels, but it’s also worth bearing in mind that the value of your items doesn’t always correspond to the color ascribed to them. You might find an item that falls lower on the loot tier system includes modifiers that better complement your build, so be sure to choose wisely at higher levels.
