The year 2009 marks the 10th anniversary for Howard Tools and the Shingle Shear. A lot has changed in those years, but the goal of Howard Tools has not. They have strived to build a quality, American-made product with the most versatile, user-friendly features to make roofing faster, easier and more profitable.
Both models 2003 and 2009 are constructed of durable, lightweight aluminum materials. Both assembled models each weigh just 16 pounds. Roofers carry heavy loads around all day so they welcome a tool that isn't heavy too.
Each model has an inlaid tape measure that makes it very quick and easy to reference any length without fumbling with a tape measure. The inlaid angle guide also makes it quick and easy to cut hip or valley shingles. By pivoting the shingle to the proper roof pitch on the angle guide, the shingle will be cut with the proper angle for the hip or valley.
Shingles can also be ripped lengthwise on both models. These various cuts can all be made with little to no set up time; simply position the shingle in the proper position for the desired cut.
The model 2003 and 2009 both use the same blade set. The blades will last for several roof jobs before sharpening is necessary and can easily be sharpened with a grinder. Replacement blades are available for approximately $24- $29.
The difference in the two models is that the model 2003 comes as a complete unit; simply attach the handle and rubber feet. It is available through distributors throughout the US.Howard Tools is pleased to introduce the newest model, the model 2009 which is being offered in these tough economic times when we all need to tighten belts. They set out to come up with a model that would retail for less than 50% of most current models on the market and maintain their proud commitment to American manufacturing.
A more affordable product was accomplished by providing the roofer with the Shingle Shear cutting assembly which can be mounted to a 16" x 40" plywood table provided by the roofer. All the necessary components and hardware are provided.
If you have the time and ability to cut a 3/4" piece of plywood, drill some holes, and mount the assembly, then you can end up with a Shingle Shear with all the same features for less than half the price about $130.00 in an hour or two. The Model 2009 is only available factory direct while the Model 2003 is still available through a network of dealers across the country.
