What You Need to Know about MetalCon 2009

What: The 19th annual METALCON International Conference and Exhibition. This major event offers innovative products for designing and building structures with metal, a comprehensive education program, and live-action demos of the latest field techniques for roofing, architectural and structural applications.

When/Where: Tampa Bay Convention Center, Tampa, FL, USA; Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday, October 8. Exhibits: Tuesday-Wednesday, noon to 5 pm; Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Conference: Tuesday-Wednesday, 8:30 to 11:45 a.m.; Thursday 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Who: Designers, builders, developers, contractors, fabricators, and suppliers from more than 50 countries attend. Experts from 300 companies exhibit the latest products and technology. The Metal Construction Association sponsors METALCON; 100 other industry organizations support it.

New for 2009: 

BASICS: 24 new conference topics, 32 new exhibiting companies.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS: Tuesday, October 6, 10:15 a.m., Creating a New Sustainable Economy
Bob Berkebile, FAIA, a founding principal of Kansas City, MO-based BNIM Architects offers a new way of looking at design and construction in this keynote presentation on opening day. Berkebile is a leading authority on sustainable design and a distinguished presenter with a vision, passion and commitment to improving the quality of life via the built environment. 

SOLAR BAY:  Booths 1331-1530
This new exhibit hall feature highlights the latest solar technologies through an education forum and an impressive display of full-size systems on metal roofs and walls. The systems can provide solar power, heat recovery, thermal heating and cooling. Tuesday and Wednesday education session provide an overview of the industry, meta's role in it, and solar incentive programs. Thursday presentations cover systems, applications, installation, and market opportunities.

BOOK SIGNING:  GALVALUME The BIEC Journey, Angelo Borzillo, MCA Booth 323
The book is new but the person is well known in the industry. Angelo Borzillo, co-inventor of the GALVALUME Technology, will be in MCA booth (323) Wednesday afternoon, October 7, to visit with industry friends and sign copies of this historic book to which he was a major contributor.

COOL SCHOOL: Monday, October 5, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
The Cool Metal Roofing Coalition (CMRC) hosts "Back to School Night," cool roofing education program for architects, building owners, specifiers, contractors, and codes and standards officials. Topics include: green building rating systems, green building regulations, incentives and rebates for cool metal roofing, above sheathing ventilation, and designing for solar and rainwater catchment. Free to media and all registered METALCON attendees.
