BELLEVILLE, Wis. - February 24, 2009 - Finally, there's a pair of pants tougher than this economy. Duluth Trading Company's Fire Hose Work Pants recently proved their superior tearing strength and abrasion resistance in a series of rigorous lab tests to exhibit job-tough performance and back up customer testimonials with a little laboratory science. And, during a time when consumers are looking for the best bang for their buck, Duluth Trading is announcing a "We Dare You to Wear 'Em Out" guarantee that promises customers a brand spankin' new pair of Fire Hose Work Pants should their pants ever fray, tear, rip or give out.
Since 2003, Duluth Trading Company's signature Fire Hose Work Pants, crafted from the same tough, yet durable cotton canvas that once wrapped fire hoses and withstood tons of water pressure, have been praised by tradesmen as the most rugged workwear around - tougher than canvas duck. In addition, Duluth Trading Company's Trades Panel, a bunch of no-baloney carpenters, contractors and outdoorsmen who share on-the-job insights with Duluth, have applauded the Fire Hose Work Pants for strength and durability. "These are the best damn work pants I've ever worn. I swear by them," claims Duluth Trades panel member, Chris K.
"From keeping our customers protected in tough work environments to providing warzone and skidding protection, guys have witnessed the durability of our Fire Hose Work Pants," says Stephanie Pugliese, vice president of product development for Duluth Trading Company. "We knew our pants were tough, but it's not enough these days to just talk about it. We wanted to prove it. And now we're putting the guarantee behind it."
An independent lab test revealed that Duluth's Fire Hose Work Pants in a 10.9 oz. fabric weight, deliver tearing strength and abrasion resistance that's a cut above top workwear brands. Ounce for ounce, the Duluth Fire Hose Work Pants lasted three times longer than any other work pant tested.
Tearing Strength Test
Duluth Trading's signature Fire Hose Work Pants, which offer a unique two-by-two weave, ripped the competition in the tearing strength test. In the warp direction (up and down yarns) it took 22.3 pounds to tear the pants while the nearest competitor took only 17.4 pounds to tear. In the weft direction (cross yarns), it took 17.9 pounds to tear Duluth's Fire Hose Work Pants while the nearest competitor took only 11.4 pounds to tear.
Abrasion Resistance Test
For the abrasion resistance test, when compared ounce for ounce to its competitors, Duluth's Fire Hose Work Pants were also the top performer. The independent lab inflated the middle of circular swatches of fabric and rubbed the inflated area with an abrasion head covered with Emery polishing paper. The abrasion head then passed in a reciprocal motion of 115 double strokes per minute at a one-inch stroke length. This was done until one thread breaks, and Duluth's Fire Hose Work Pants were the last to have a thread break.
"We understand disposable dollars are harder to come by these days and we're proud to proclaim that Duluth's Fire Hose Work Pants offer the best bang for our customers' dollar," says Joan Brown, director of quality assurance for Duluth Trading Co. "In addition to being strong, they're also durable and comfortable thanks to special wash that makes our signature pants feel like you've been wearing them for years."
