D.C. Taylor Co. Installs 400,000 Square Feet of Roof in Two Months

CONCORD, Calif. - D. C. Taylor Co. announced its role as roofing contractor for the solar energy project hosted at four of the Foster's Wine Estates. Due to strict time constraints set by the wineries' annual crush (harvest) season, the 400,000 square-foot roofing project began in August 2008 and finished in October 2008. D. C. Taylor Co. employed nine separate crews totaling 55 workers from across the nation to complete the 15,000-man hour project.

Each roof installed by D. C. Taylor Co. features a 25-year warranty, including maintenance services for the next 25 years. The eco-friendly and innovative roofs are designed to collect potable water or can be ph neutral in order to prevent ground water contamination. By salvaging the existing insulation in the roof assembly, the company also avoided hauling 611 cubic yards of debris to local landfills.

After completion of the roofing system, D. C. Taylor Co. assisted in the installation and completion of the Foster's-hosted photovoltaic system in their professional capacity. The 1.34 MW solar energy system installed at Beringer Vineyards is currently the largest operational solar energy installation at a United States winery.

"We couldn't be more pleased with our decision to bring D. C. Taylor Co. on board with this project," said Michael Bright, president of The Bright Group, Inc. "This was a large-scale, complicated roofing project with difficult time constraints and D. C. Taylor Co. rose to the occasion. Thanks to their meticulous scheduling and hard-working crews, the entire roofing project was completed in time for crush and the workmanship was excellent."

The construction and financing of the solar energy project at Foster's Wine Estates is a unique, collaborative effort. The Bright Group, Inc., the initiator and co-developer of the project, recruited D. C. Taylor Co. as roofing contractors and also enlisted SolarNet to coordinate and co-develop the project. Stellar Energy Solutions was then recruited to serve as the solar engineer and general contractor for the installation. Perpetual Energy Systems (PES) combined conventional financing and federal energy tax credits to finance the solar project at all four vineyards. Foster's purchases the energy generated by the system from PES, owner of the solar array as well as the renewable energy certificates and carbon credits determined by the system's actual output.
