2010 IRE Seeks Volunteers for Community Service Day
DALLAS - The 2010 International Roofing Expo is seeking volunteers and donations for Community Service Day, a home renovation and revitalization project taking place, February 21, 2010, one day prior to the Expo. Partnering with the New Orleans affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the project will take place from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, located in the city's 17th Ward.
Renovations will be performed on the home of Maggie Stephens, a 75-year retired secretary and Louisiana native, whose home of more than 44 years became unlivable after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
"By participating in this rewarding day, attendees and exhibitors can truly make a difference in the life of Ms. Stephens," said Donna Bellantone, Director of the Expo. "Displaced since 2005, she is ecstatic we are helping make her dream of returning home come true."
Volunteers are needed from a variety of construction disciplines to help with the renovations which include roof repair, interior and exterior painting, flooring and minor carpentry. Volunteers will work under the direction of a crew chief.
To make this project successful, product donations are needed in the form of shingles, flashing, plywood, tar paper, drip edge, ridge caps, ridge vents, whirly birds, venting systems, tubes of roofing tar, drill bit sets, utility knives, tape measures, sledge hammers, chisels, wrenches and pliers and much more.
Financial donations are another avenue in which attendees and exhibitors can contribute to this heartwarming cause. All donors will receive a tax deductible receipt.
To simplify the process, attendees and exhibitors who wish to register for the event and/or make a financial donation can do so at the same time they register to attend the show at TheRoofingExpo.com. There is a $25 fee that includes lunch and transportation. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and will be asked to sign a Waiver of Liability Form.
Community Service Day was made possible by a significant financial donation by Sika Sarnafil, the event sponsor, who will be exhibiting in booth #2311. Bradco Supply Company also made a generous donation of product and materials that will be used for this project.
"This is such a worthy cause to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate," said Bill Good, Executive Vice President of NRCA, the show's official sponsor. "This is a great opportunity to support the roofing industry, while giving back to the New Orleans community."
