vicsphoto_213

Well folks, this is my very first blog. My name is Vickie and I own the Roofers Exchange and RoofersCoffeeShop.com. I have been in the roofing industry 33 years in one way or another. I have a little street cred, I know a little about a lot of things in the roofing industry and I may be one of the few girls you know that looks at every roof driving down the street.

I don’t think that what I personally have to contribute is so interesting that my blog would be important to you but what I do have is the opportunity to talk to roofers all over the country every day. They call us on the phone and of course we have the glorious tool of the RCS.com forum to communicate. So my plan is to talk about my day interacting with the roofing industry. I will post questions, thoughts and comments and it should create some interesting commentary. One thing I have going for me is that I care about this industry and it would be an honor to help it in any way I can.

  • 3. Terry  |  March 3, 2009 at 8:28 am

Well Vicki, rest assured, you are not the only female who looks at every roof going down the street. I am right there beside you looking up! I have been involved with roofing in one way or another since the early ’80’s and enjoy being a female in a male dominated trade. I thoroughly enjoy the RCS and have learned a lot by visiting here. Good job – keep it up!

Heck not only do I look at the roofs on homes as I drive down the streets but I also look at the roofs on homes that are not lonly in the tv shows that I am watcing but also in the car commesrcials or any other tv commercials where a house roof is shown in thecommercial. I even sometimes have dreams about roofs.

  • 7. Glen Livingston  |  March 10, 2009 at 7:36 am

I look at not only those on my street but those on every street that I drive on but those on every tv commercial and also those in every movie and also I even dream of them.

i have been in the roofing trade over 20 years. i’ve been to the union school for roofers waterproofers and allied workers
My wife and I moved to North Carolina 3 years ago. I see roofers out here that don’t what they are doing. no flashing, raking archerial shingles. what do you about that

  • 9. jac  |  March 16, 2009 at 8:20 am

I see these companies hire these ilegals that don’t care about the people. they under bid everyone they can with 15 to a house. i bidded a roof one time. the owner also owned a construction company. when i told him the price which was low enough. he laugh and
(oh no you know i own a comp. and the mex. will jump all it with lowwer price) so i told i can’t bid agaisnt people that 20 to a house. i pay my own mortgage. not anyone else. I see these companies that hire them but they don’t realize that is part of the problems with the economy. they send the money back mex or where ever thay come from. then when the homeowner has a problem with the roof.where the roofers then back in mex or where ever I talk to people own these companies they don’t care about the home owner only the money. get done get it done quick. what ever happened to the roofers that care about the U.S.A. you get 15 illegal on a house that just does not care about anything but themselves

  • 10. jac  |  March 16, 2009 at 8:27 am

I think the roofers should make a stand to fight back. We should go after these big or small companies. I love roofing and have ever since I started. I left cali. becuase if yoiu wern’t spaish you couldn’t get a roofing job because of the mex.
I am a vet and it stated in the union that a vet priotiy over the rest but not true. becuase they only mex. and look at the web about the union in san fran. had underground roofing hiring from home depot so they don’t have pay the fees

  • 11. jac  |  March 16, 2009 at 8:30 am

i Think we should check it more go deeper in thier pockets. I saw a church done by one of these comp and the is wrong

    Hello Vickie -

My name is Virgie, and I’m sort of a woman in roofing. I’m the CFO for Chem Link, and we make sealants and adhesives for your industry.

We have added a Blog recently, too, and would welcome technical questions about roofing or about our products or just anything else going on! Blogging is a great way to share ideas!

    Thank you!

    Hi Vickie,

Great to see you are still keeping the US roofers linked through the RCS, sorry I don’t have time to call by as much as I would like maybe I try to encourage some of the Guys n Gals to add Solar to their services.

Trust me they will be coming across it more because Solar is mounted on roofs and we all know what happens when people without a roofing background get on the roof :)

Yep no respect for your hard work, that said I know you guys have the knowledge to fix the mess made by others.

    Hi all,

I been lurking for a few years,on RCS Nice site Vickie. Jac when the illegals roof by us, it is job security. We wind up replacing their work. We had hail 4 years ago, the hole town got damaged. We are replacing their work now. We are required to be state licensed for roofing here, and you may complain on the web site. It takes vigilance. Unfortunately you may starve first.
Dose RCS has a link to all the governing bodies that oversee roofing?
    It is http://www.idfpr.com/ for Illinois.

How about Armorlite for something that’s new. I’m having trouble getting much on it here in Sunnyvale, CA. I’d like some roofing contractors that install it and info on how good it is. Help!

  • 20. Chris Child  |  May 14, 2009 at 10:29 am

    Hi Vickey,

Just checking out your blog. Very interesting way to network. I have been in the roofing industry for 30 years, starting in 1981 with solar installation. Moved to clay tile in 86, then metal roofing in 96, then architectural photography in 07. We met the first time around 1986 at a San Berdo RCA meeting. You were a Craycroft rep and I was an MCA rep. It’s been a crazy ride but I’m very glad to have been your friend through it all.

I LOVE THE WOMEN I DEAL WITH EVERY DAY IN THIS BUSINESS, FROM MANUFACTURERS REPS, ARCHITECTS, SUPPLIERS, RECEPTIONIST AND OFFICE ASSISTANTS FOR GC’S TO THE HARD WORKING WOMEN OUT THERE ON THE ROOFS DOING THE WORK. YOU LADIES KEEP US MEN IN LINE AND I THANK YOU FOR ALL YALLS HARD WORK AND HELPING ME DO MY JOB. ESPECIALLY THE LADIES WHO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT WHAT GOES ON IN THE OFFICES AND I CAN CALL AND GET BID RESULTS, INFO ON A JOB OR EVEN SEND ME TO THE RIGHT PERSON TO GET THE INFO I NEED. OR SEND ME PLANS AND SPECS OR BID INVITES FOR UPCOMING PROJECTS. I CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION. I GUESS … THANK YOU. YOU NEED A RAISE.

Hi, Congratulations to the site owner for this marvelous work you’ve done. It has lots of useful and interesting data.

  • 24. Peter  |  June 10, 2009 at 5:53 pm

I see what people are saying. we have been in the construction business for 25 years and this is by far the worst ever slow down in so cal we are getting under bid by 40% on some jobs by contractors willing to do a job for allmost cost what is the point in having a business if your not making money 75% of everyone i know in the business is lousing their houses and savings most contractors dont know what the hell they are doing according to the CSLB in california all work done by a contractor must last 10 years so the guys undercutting all the ligt ones are doing me a favor they will be out of biz and back to mexcio soon

I have been a stormer for a while now… There are a lot of bad people in every business. But as far as the Aliens are concerned I believe its the insurance companies fault. They set the pay in any given area. They lobby (Im sure) to keep border open. If they had to pay real wages to RC’s who had documented labor they would go under. Instead they push us under instead. God I love this country

  • 38. solar panel construction  |  January 20, 2010 at 7:31 am

I’m the kind of guy who enjoys to seek innovative things. Currently I’m making my personalized pv panels. I’m managing it all alone without the aid of my men. I’m utilizing the internet as the only path to acheive this. I stumbled upon a really amazing website that explains how to create photovoltaic panels and so on. The site explains all the steps required to solar panel construction.

I am not exactly sure bout how precise the data given there iz. If some experts over here who had experience with these things can have a peak and give your feedback in the thread it will be great and I would really value it, because I truly love solar panel construction.

Tnx for reading this. You people are the best.
